side moldings
i have a 92 dx with the big ugly side moldings. how would i go about filling in the holes that hold those in and just having the indentation down the side of the car?
i like the look of the cars without the moldings, just the indented line along the car. i thought of painting the moldings, but there would still be the big *** lump along the door.
If its a coupe theres a screw you take out then clips and then you would have to fill the holes for the clips.
If its a hatch i heard a heat gun would take them off and its smooth underneath.

the reason i ask is cause the part of the molding is mising on the fender portion of the trim, and there are two hole there, so i would say apparently their clipped on, but what is the best way to fill the holes if i pulled them off?

Yea it will if you dont know what your doing. You have to tach weld (depending on what your doing). If its a small little hole then no need to. Just get some kitty hair and call it a day.
I shaved my side moldings off and i tac weld it with alot of wet cloths. It takes time and alot of practice. But i wouldnt do it any other way.

i have the same problem as you..getting them filled just doesn't look as good.
I'm going to buy some jdm side moldings, they are alot thinner and won't be as bad when someone hits it with their door.

I just bought mine from passwordJDM.com got them for 120.00 shipped, he said that he was about to put that deal on HT but I don't know if he has yet. I am sure if you call him(leo) you can get them for the same price(mine were for an EJ8). I will even provide you the number....1(562)630-8298
alot thiner than the USDM ones. I didn't buy them because they are JDM I bought them because it was the best option besides shaving the moldings.

so with the kitty hair, will it cover holes the size of a dime, thats a bout how but the clip hole for the stock moldings are, maybe a little smaller. im really good with bondo, but never used fibergalss.
if you want to shave them make sure you get them welded! if you bondo and fiberglass they will CRACK OUT I have seen it to many times. If you find a good body shop they will do it for you. The other option is to put side markers in the spot that u are talking about.

Kittyhair could cover a dime size or the whole damn car (i wouldnt do that to much cracking but you get the point
) Anyway yea you could just put it in and fill up the hole. The only problem youll have is sanding. Get a mushroom tip and a drill gun and go through it. Use about 80 grit and up to get that stuff off. then when you get it to where you like it, get some Paint in a Can stuff and paint it on.

Do you mean Duraglass? Where its fiberglass and bondo? Thats good but it wont hold onto with holes. Kitty hair could fix patches no problem. Duraglass is what you would use if you shaved your side moldings.

Yo
me and my dad are currently shaveing my side mouldings on my 92 cx.
to do what you want the best bet would be fiberglass and bondo, ide say just bondo but after time it might come out.
Since im completely shaving the mouldings weve had to weld in metal then grind down, then bondo, then sand, then more bondo if needed, then sand, then primer, sand, and more primer. and voala! lol
The fender moulding wasnt a problem minimal to no warping!
The door moulding slightly warped the door, but was smoothed and fixed with bondo.
The rear quater moulding is a pain. When we welded it, it warped the crap out of my quater. but was fixed not a big deal in the long run.
IMPORTANT NOTE* when welding the metal into the door moulding (when the door is removed and on saw horses) keep the window rolled up!!! actually always keep it up! Being the bright person my dad is he forgot and a droplet of metal fell into the window and shattered it into a million pieces! NO biggy though hes gotta get me a new one.
if you need more info on the mouldings just pm me or right me at iidisciplli @aol.com
good luck!!!

Hey X CHB X
Why did you get warping, did you tach weld or you went across with a straight line?
Also if you shave the whole thing, gut the hell out of your doors and corner panels or else youll catch on fire. inside the doors is alot of plastic stuff for sound. Take those out because they will catch fire, ive seen it done (thank god it wasnt my car).

Or to fill the holes, get some 3M panel adhesive and cut little metal squares and "glue" them behind the holes and then cover them with some Duraglas the Icing. 3M panel adhesive will NEVER crack out. Personally I think it looks like **** w/o moldings. Invest in some JDM thin side molding, your doors will thank you later.
