Default The Definitive CTR Piston / B16 Thread

I've seen various answers to this question after slinking in the shadows and searching all over this site, but now I think it is time that the truth comes out!

In order to run CTR pistons with the stock pr3 rods in a b16a1, what does one need to do?

This may seem like an easy question, but some say the rods need milled. Others say bolt the damn things in, slap the head on, and have a nice day!

What is the right answer?

Thanks!

If that is the case, then what part of the rod needs the trimming?

Yes 1mm off each side so that is effectively the same width of a GSR rod. 18mm if I remember correctly but don't quote me on that.

How bout springing the extra cash and just getting a set of gsr or itr rods, wouldnt that be a little less screwing around?

You can't do that in a B16 block.
Rods are too long, and they are not wide enough at the "base" or big end for the crank/rod journal for a b16 crank.

Dammit, why does this have to be so complicated
Are there any other stock honda rods (obviously besides the gsr and itr's) that are stronger than the b16's that will fit the b16 with ctr pistons? I really dont want to go all forged, that can get way too expensive.

I believe it may be easier for your machine shop to machine the pistons instead of the rods. That's what mine did.

And I remember finding an extremely good thread regarding the compression that different motors would have utilizing CTR slugs... anybody have a link to that?

The inner part of the piston where the rod fits into. Either method will work, personally I feel better about having a little more material on my rods and a little less material on my pistons.

http://www.bojangs.com/calculator/

I hear this one is better?

11:1 with stock 3 layer head gasket
11.2:1 with 2 layer
11.6:1 with 1 layer

I may go this route myself instead of LS/Vtec...just cuz I have the motor already etc.
