Familiar Symptoms?
OK first off I have a 96 accord ex f22b1 automatic with 140,000. (by the way for any noobs here this is what you should always do first, list what your car is when asking for help) First off has anyone had any problems with the 5th generation not starting. It seems that its just a loose wire which Im certain it is, basically what happens is that my car likes to start intermittently but only when its hot outside. Today was the first hot day (phoenix) and wouldnt you know it my car just had to act up. When you try to start it the starter doesnt click or sound like the battery is dead its as if you leave it in drive and try to start it, nothing happens. I noticed that after it cools down it will start right up. I had to sit for almost 4 hours with it. I thought I heard some fellow members talking about this problem but I forgot who it was and searching didnt return anything. So does anyone have a clue?
So much for dependability. geesh

Ok couple of questions for you then:
1. When it does this, do you have power to your wipers, heater fan and that sorta thing?
2. When you get your car started and take it for a drive, will your symptoms happen? Or does your car have to sit for a while for symptoms to happen again?

i had similiar problem but i am not sure if the solution is same with yours.
I had to replace the relay under dashboard by the steering wheel. it is brownish relay and it costs $40 to $60 .
I was told that it is the ignitor inside the distribtor - but i had the ignitor replaced not long before. So the distribytor was not the problem - after researching some more I learned about the relay under the dashboard could give similiar starting problem syptom as the ignitor inside the dist. so I went ahead and bought the relay and replaced it.
It started every time from there on.
Before the relay replacement, it would not start if engine is warm sometime - that i had to wait 5 to 15 minutes before trying again and if not starting, i wait some longer. Pain in b__

1. I have power to everything.
2. It will continue to run until I shut it off and this is when it feels like not starting, but the last time it did this was last summer. So it is very intermittent.
As for James and Elvis1977 My car doesnt turn over, its as if you leave your automatic in reverse or a drive gear and try to start it, nothing happens. No clicks, nothing. I also checked my main relay and when I unplugged the relay my car will crank it just wont start. So if the main relay was causing this problem then the car wouldnt try to turn over it would just sit there like it has been doing right?
Could it have something to do with the neutral safety switch or whatever the equivelant is for the automatic?

it did not turn over at all - nothing happened for 5 - 15 minutes, then all of sudden it would turn over and start just fine. it was intermittent but increasingly and slowly becoming more frequent as time goes. It would be easier and less worrisome if you just replace it. I researched and it costs 48 dollars with hondaparts website.
Ok, now since you have power to wipers and such when it does this, we can eliminate voltage problems through the ignition switch. SO main relay is good and such.
Now since it has not done this since last summer, it could well be a part that is affected by extreme heat. Very difficult to diagnose.
Now it does not mean that it is a sensor, it could be the connection. Next time it does it, grab some terminal cleaner, get under the car and spray electrical connections and sensors connected to tranny... Now this cleaner is cold and will cool the parts real fast. Then start the car.. If your car starts you have found the problem... Sorry.

Im not trying to argue Im just trying to get some information, but you say that it didnt do anything? But my question is that lets say one of the solder joints are bad on my relay and it wont make contact and this is causing my car not to start, wouldnt my car do the same thing when the relay was unplugged? Like I said it will crank over when the relay is unplugged. Its kinda hard to believe that the main relay is causing this, am I looking at the wrong relay, you guys are talking about the pgm-fi main relay right? If this relay goes bad it wont send power to the fuel injection system not the ignition system. Hell stranger things have happened.
Filthy Shovel: Terminal Cleaner, can you get this at autozone?

I think your main relay is good... leave it for now..
Terminal cleaner. Look at a shop that sells electronic stuff. Go up to a salesman and ask for this stuff. You need sometype of liquid that cools real fast... Butane does also the same thing, but very dangerous. DO not use that...

Sure.. The point is that you want to cool the part as soon as possible so that you can actually see if heat is in fact affecting it...
Also, you need to wiggle connections around to see if loseness is affecting it.
That is how you troubleshoot problems like this...
Good luck
