Default Clutch Adjustment

Hello all. I'm sure glad I ran into this websight. I installed a new clutch assembly on my 85 Accord. The engine is a 1.8 litre. I had to adjust the cable to just about no freeplay in order to shift. One week later the difficult shifting retured. I adjusted again and it shifted ok. Now, 3 days later, not shifting again. What did I do wrong? Anybody have an idea. PS. the clutch assm consisted of a disc, pressure plate, throw out bearing and an alignment tool. Thanx to all.

Woot Woot!!!! 85's rule, I used to own one myself. I had an lx, I dunno about yourself.

Well, it's definately related to the clutch assembly or cable, we know that. I've adjusted the freeplay on mine plenty of times, but I've never run into the problem that you have. You might want to check the integrity of the cable, make sure it's in working order and that it isn't binding at all.

Welcome aboard.

Thank you riceburner. At this point I might just as well replace the cable as it is the original. If that doesn't fix it I will take it down again and inspect the clutch.

did it work fine before you replaced the clutch/pressure plate and throw bearing? If so, the cable should be ok.

maybe you can check the end cable connection to the lever and make sure it is seated correctly and secured and make sure that the plastic adjuster is seated on the bracket correctly and secured and that the bracket is secured to the trans.

if all the connection/links I described above are ok and secured, what i was thinking is that maybe the throw bearing is set up incorrectly or not tight enough that it moves around after a while?

also make sure that the cable is fastened to clips along from the trans. to the firewall.
