relocate battery for the intake? pics
just curious, i was looking at my car and i thought i can probable relocate my battery somewhere and put my intake filter right there where the battery is. just curious because there is a small peice that you can take off so cool air can get into the intake. here is my idea....

and now this is what i'm going to do, or something like it. pics when done.

I don't know about air getting to the filter from that removable piece. The negative pressure formed down there by air passing over the hood and windshield at speed will probably cause air to be sucked AWAY from the filter.
To me that wouldn't seem to be the best place to put an air filter. That intake on the civic is just fugly. But if this is what you really want to do, they make a kit to relocate your battery to the trunk, or hatch, or wherever.

Doubt it, those look like Skunk gears.

well, i am going to do it anyways. just for the heck of it. it's not going to cost me anything, so i will try it out. i'm getting some JDM lights in also, so then i will do it all at once.

yeah, i have thought about that also, but at the same time, what if air actually goes down in that removable section? never know, will try it out and see if there is any results. and also, that would probably be better for heat, a stock sortram intake draws hot air from the headers, so this might be another option.

theres a thread in the archives saying that theres positive air pressure or something like that. and some ppl raised there hood around that section. but i cant seem to find the thread

Are you sure there is neg. pressure formed there? At speed on the freeway (without the fan on), there sure is a lot of air coming through my vents. For sure the air isnt getting sucked out

That civic is horrible! AHH! I think they stripped everything for the ugly look- not performance wise. Becuase they managed to retain the power steering assembly somehow
. And look- they took all the plastic off the windshield wiper motor assembly. But they only took the left armature off HAHAHAH. All the weight from the motor is still there- they just took the 2ounces off from the plastic that made it look half way decent. Now they exposed it all to look awful. Rip the damn 5lb wiper motor out, if your that crazy for "weight savings" .WTF is with all the duct-tape on the STOCK radiator? , this car cracks me up.

Air intake here is known as "cowl induction". You'll see NASCAR (flame suit on) use this area since it is indeed a high pressure area. You don't need any holes in the front end for air induction, just cooling.
You'll need to bend or cut the firewall to get some air back there, in the pic it looks like the guy has massaged it a little.

well, got the install done after about 20 mins. had some time on my hands. anyways, from the butt dyno, it seems to pull harder at high speeds, so maybe there is a positive pressure afterall. at low speeds, there is no difference.
and all this is from the butt dyno, so it can probably be that it's just in my head ior something...

That's correct. In front of the windshield is a high-pressure area on most cars. The vent intake is there for that reason.
