Default All you "v8" killers...

Im always reading here and there about hondas killing some (insert name of v8 powered car here). I really have some trouble swallowing that kinda info. For any of you v8 killers can you please post your engine mods/specs im just curious to see what one would need in order to be a "v8 killer".

Please dont flame im not some noob looking to know how much hp a intake is gonna get me on my h16 (thats a joke..yes)

Pretty much anybody on here than can break into the 13s can outrun some V8 cars. I know with my boosted SOHC at 10psi there isn't a whole lot of stock V8 cars that I feel I'll be "stomped by" at the track. Especially on a autox or roadcourse.

1999 Civic si, 2001 B18c5 Skunk2 valvtrain. JDM header, T1r test pipe, N1 catback, p28, Rota SLips and a unexperienced 16 year old driver...constant 9.1 in the 1/8th... 2.2 60 foots. Thats some 03 Mustang GT territory I would say.

well, stock v8s might be easier.. but with a few simple modifications a v8 can turn into a pretty mean monster. My buddy has a 93 5.0, stock it has something like 235hp and hes only got headers and exhausts on it and its a pretty mean machine..oh and close to 300 ft/lbs of tourque

no offense to hondas or anything... i mean i drive one haha

H22 hatch. Basic mods, awesome suspension, great tuning and quality parts. 206 whp/160lbtq and a car that weighs 1987lbs.

Honestly, I sense alot of ignorance here. How can you say you cant mess with v8 power? a 92 hatch with a b18b and a 10 psi t3/t4 turbo kit can take a 2002 Ls1 T/A...with stock bottom end...the hatch has about 8 K in it and the Ls1....no telling...

I have a friend with a VERY built WS6 that I can DESTROY at a track. That 235 lbs in a heavy old 5.0 is a lot diff than my 200+ hp in a 2200 lb car. Plus, that WS6 *I KNOW FOR A FACT* has a lot of problems with overheating **** at the track.

EDIT: It seems to me all of you guys are referring to straight line only stuff...My buddy Brandon with the WS6 is going to sell it for something lighter at the track. 'Nuff said.

I can handle 350s no problem. I might be racing a mild built 350 soon so when that happens look for it in my sig. Mustangs are pretty easy too.

93 DX coupe with GSR swap and bolt ons.

There is no replacement for displacement. It sucks for us import guys...but you just have to grasp that concept. Any mullet-head redneck can go buy a $500 Camaro from the junkyard, drop a $2000 HEMI or big block V8 into it, and run 11s all day long.

ok, so my uncle and I are going to put in a 1967 vett 327 with racing heads, blower etc.... (not sure which) into a gutted vega, with the rear end done and roll cage so far... that is light and powerful, it will be a 2 or 3 speed auto, and he is aiming for low 10 to 9s at least,

That is hard to beat, but ive seen it done by the little guys....

however most V8s are heavy, ergo HP to weight ratio... and not all of them were made to be strong, the trannys might not be for speed. Power... doesnt mean fast... look at tractors, LOADS of torque, cause of tranny, but absolutly no speed... bad example cause its not a car, I know, but it works

ALSO, there is the handling thing.... hondas handle, its a trademark I bought them for besides relyability...

I can't believe I'm getting into this, but here I go agian.

I'm not saying that V8s don't make good power. They do. End of story. But on a road track, and for daily driving, my little boosted 4 banger does what I need it to.

Yes, V8s make power, but often the cars they are placed into are heavy and are less desirable on a roadcourse. This is coming from PERSONAL experience with me and my buddies at local tracks. In a straight line, my buddy with the WS6 DESTROYS me, but around the corners the sheer weight of the car doesn't allow him to keep up.

5k in mods will make a V8 ***** to the wall fast, no doubts about that. In a straight line, they are great, and I love torque, but for the money spent *IMHO* my boosted D series is a better track car.

Damn, this is why I hate discussions about V8 vs Honda...ALWAYS bringing up **** like overheating and unreliable. American cars can be made just as reliable as any other Honda can. People can't admit that by dumping $5k into a V8 that it will make sick power. Then we have the other kids talking about handling and all this stuff. The only thing that needs to be talked on here is PLAIN POWER. Who can outpower who. Why do all the full blown drag cars use big block V8s , modded up the ***, etc...to break some serious hp and tq. Why don't they use turbocharged Honda motors with ALLLLL the displacement we have because we all know how BIG our motors are. I'm not ******* Honda, I love them, I drive one. But, its not by choice. If gas was cheaper, I would definitely buy a 5.0. 2 of my friends have 5.0s and they are modded. Low 12s all day long. One of them is about to do nitrous to break into 11s easily. Why didn't they go with a Honda? Or a Nissan? You have to admit that V8s can make some SERIOUS power and not break down. Non of their 5.0s have EVER broke down and they are damn near 15 years old. Plus, everyone knows that they need to dump some decent $$ into their motors to make 300+hp and 300+wtq...you definitely know that. Why are all the motors in the classifieds that are pretty damn built selling for like $2-$4k just the shortblock? Because you'll need to get a fully build head and everything needed to complete that motor with run to it's FULL advantage. Not no moms and pops put together turbo system that only pushes 7psi because I have stock internals kinda setup. My friend dumped about $8k into his H22 to only run high 11s. With $8k, you can definitely put way more power down to the ground and outrun in the 1/4...IMO. But that's just me. ****, 90% of the cars here are muscle cars and 99% are at the track down here always getting better 1/4 times...</TD></TR></TABLE>

brad z (MAX_CFM) was running low to mid 12's all motor (full interior I believe) he is pretty tight-lipped on mods (BUILT head - not sure about the block)

see here for is OLD post (july '03) w/ a good video too
https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=566688

then you have vids like this one boosted (720whp dyno) not enough traction tho
http://oregonstate.edu/~uyemur...o.mpg thanks to HT user Kataku2K3 &lt;---similar setups (vids too - smae location) yield in the 10's...possible 9's in the future if they can work on the traction issue

I had an stock 350 with cams, intake, header, ignition and a 100 shot hitting over 400 hp and over 500 lb fts of torque. Sounds like alot of you are running near stock v8's. BUT i know the quickness's of hatch's. I got one

I agree with you there. But, how many people are really driving moderately modded v-8 cars? Certainly not many where I live. Most just get a GT or whatever off the showroom floor and roll around like they are the sh*t. Pretty funny, actually. They are usually the one's who seriously doubt the potential of imports. That is until they get beat by one.

what bothers me is that every discussion about V8's and Hondas relate to drag racing and straight line performance. There's alot more to racing than just drag. Huge amounts of horsepower from any engine, big or small, mean absolutely squat when you hit a road course.
