Dealership put Quaker State 5W-30 in my Transmission
I know everybody says (and the Helm manual confirms) that you should use Honda MTF... should I be concerend enough to call the dealer and ask questions or does it matter?
just keep it in there, if something happens, b*tch your head off at them...unless you wanna go through the trouble of swapping fluids. or you can just do what the other say...take it out!

It must be changed immediately. It will grind like all Hell. Even the owners' manual states that motor oil can only be used on a temporary basis, and that only Honda MTF has the proper friction characteristics. Take it back and make them rectify their mistake. And if they say they "always do it that way," tell them that their sloppy service record doesn't excuse their shoddy work on your car.
So there is nothing really to worry about? If not then I will just leave it as long as I have peace of mind...
I would go back to change it. Having motor oil in there probably won't be good for your tranny in the long haul. Honda makes special fluid for a purpose.

actually according to the my owners manual(JDM) 10w-30 motor oil is ok if your tranny does not have an LSD. I have yet to see a tranny over here with motor oil in it but it is written in the stupid *** manual!..
Yes they all have LSDs and so did SiR's I believe it was option however on them.
I believe at our dealership they use BG MTL and BG LSD oil. Though they use Honda motor oil for engines though.

This post kinda worries me now. I don't know to much about oils, and I took my car to a respectable (yet rip off) place around me. They said that they could only put 5W-20 oil in my car or it would void my warranty. Since this was my first non dealership visit I didn't know any better and agreed. But ever since then I've kinda smelled oil burning. Should I change the oil immediately? and if so, what is the propper oil to use? Thanks

for motor oil, any 5w-30 should do you fine but many of the people here us Mobil 1. I really doubt that it would void your warranty. If you smelled burning oil at first but not later on, they might have spilled some oil somewhere in your engine bay. If it still smells later on, look for leaks. Hope This Helps...
Is that what they put in your engine? the 5w20? I would get that dumped and put in 5w30. Normally I run 5w30 in my ITR unless I'm about to track it and then I like to run 5w40.
I'm in the same situation. My dealer put my leftover Mobil1 5W30 in my tranny and they said it was fine. When I got home I checked the owners manual and it does state that motor oil is okay as a temporary solution, and that it should be swapped for MTF as soon as possible.
So, I was going to take it back and have them flush and fill the car with MTF, but someone posted in another thread that Honda is on a national backorder for MTF...
We will see what they say on the phone tomorrow.

Ah...another horror story from the Austin's McDavid serivce department again...I suggest you never go back. What do you expect from an Acura dealership that **** my first oil change ?? They should be able to do it with their eye close for god sake!

Go back to the dealership and ask them why they sell Honda MTF in the parts department.
If they say it is for the ALL of the non-automatic cars that Honda sells.... ask them why the HELL it is not in your car.
Some times..... daym stupid dealers.

The burning smell is pretty much gone. I suppose they may have spilled a bit. As for the next oil I put in I think I'll go with Mobile 1 5w-30. Seems to be the "general" consensus on the board. My car has 11k miles and I heard alot of people putting it in after 10. I should be fine, but just to clarify, full sysnthetic is OK, correct?
I hate to break it to you guys, but the majority of dealers will use 5w-30 for manual trannies. It sucks, but it's true, at least from my experience. F dealers...
Update: Just called the dealer. At first he said "All Honda MTF is is 5W-30 oil...". When I pushed him a little harder about it he said "We do it all the time and there is never any problem..."
They are changing it tomorrow morning...
