Starting car with wideband O2 installed. How is yours installed?
Just finished my DIY WB, $100 into it
. Seems to work fine, gonna do some street tuning tomorrow can't wait!!!
My question is; since you shoulden't have the o2 in the exhaust stream while it isn't fulley heated -ie, no LED on. So do you turn the key on and then the O2 controller and wait for the light before starting? mine warms up in 35sec is this fast enough to just start the car right after turning it on?

I never heard of not having it in the exhaust stream until it is heated. You just need to make sure the sensor heats up so that it does not get full of crap and not work. It is okay to start the car while the sensor is warming up. Atleast that is what I always do.
you are correct that it needs to be heated to work properly, and that there is a warmup time involved. however to the best of my knowledge (and experience with my WB), it will not harm the unit if you just turn the car on right away without it warming up. the only side effect will be that it wont give you any readings for 20 seconds or so until it heats up.

cool, just didn't want to ruin what I already have.
this is from the diy-wb.com site;
"If the LED goes out for any reason, immediately remove the sensor from the exhaust stream. The LED indicates the heater is still warmed and active, a requirement to prevent damage to the sensor"
I guess as long as it's only 20-30 sec at startup it should be fine though.

the innovative manual says to turn the wideband on after the car is started.. if you turn it on before.. there may be dangerous voltage spikes while your starter cranks. and if condensation hits the sensor while it is hot. it may be damaged.
i start the car. then turn on the wideband
i start the car. then turn on the wideband
humm, I have heard of the voltage spike potential. Mine is all fused and I think is has some type of internal protection too. Not sure if that covers it.
