B16- dome of piston has scratches?

B16- dome of piston has scratches?
my friend has a 93 EG6 with a B16 swap in it. today he pulled his head off to do some head work and noticed the piston #2 has scratches on the outside perimeter of the dome. does anyone has an idea of what could of caused this? help!!
