K20 swap into eg? what are the downsides to this swap?
hasport recently released K20 mounts for the ek and i know it wont be too long till the mounts for the eg will be out. what are the downsides to doing this swap besides the money? i am planning on doing this swap as soon as its available and i just wanted to know what kinda problems i will run into.
if you check in the hybrid forum, tech forum, and NA forum, there is thread in all of them i belive and i know for sure there is one in the tech of NA
to be honest with you, the only negative i see is the cost. i read every post i find about it, and so far, price is the only downer.
ps. how can you go wrong with a 2.0 liter, 6 speed, vtec in a lightweight hatch????
edit: sorry, you said besides the money. besides the money, i see no negatives.l

very true. put you in the 12s easy and if your into HPDE, its a great, responsive motor.

only negative i see is the fact that its gonna be a bltch to pass smog.... without paying alot of money for usdm k20a2/3 smog components.. again the money issue
yeah, smog must suck. none of that in good ol' VT! i didn't know it was that expensive to make it legal in cali though?

K series engines actually are a lot cleaner running then the B series and D series. There is a whole new technology in these engines that allow this.
The mount kit, custom header, thermostat, and wire harness will cost 1200-1400, which I think is an amazing deal. The last thing you'll need is very expensive. Hondata and the imobilizer removed. This is 600 dollars approx. This will take off the factory immobilizer, and also remap the whole air/fuel system for maximum power. (www.hondata.com)
So, I spoke with hasport, and the kit will be out sometime in the summer of 04. They have the proto-type working fine now. Hope this helps!! I will be doing the same swap, I don't care how much it will cost.......

I hate to tell you this, but if you are asking how hard it is, you probally should at least have some some help with the swap. You will need all of the usual swap tools (basic hand tools, cherry picker, etc...)

Rod like in the D and B series are better but the advantages outweigh this.</TD></TR></TABLE>
the hydraulic clutch is definetly nice
Cables shift selector is alot nicer than rods..
Between shifts the cables are very stable its alot easier to shift an the motor movement does not effect then...less chance to miss a gear and more precise.
The shift rods work...but since motor movement plays a part in how the tranny shifts and how far you need to move the shifter to get into gear.

damn this man...im about to buy a nice 93 grey cx hatch just to do this swap...lol...price for the jdm k20a is about 5500 these days...
other downsides might be aftermarket parts and fitment of those parts...some of the parts might not fi because of things that could be in the way on the eg chassis that were not there in the dc5 or ep3 chassis...that and money
