Default Dynod my car today!!!!!!!

Well i dynod my car today and i was a bit dissapointed... my best run was 146hp!!!!isent that a bit low for a GSR???The mods i have are intake and DC 4-1 headers!! now i was expecting say about 155-160 hp...was i thinking wrong?

i have the chart and i will scann it later on.. but what was wierd is that when vtec kicked in the hp dropped and then slowly rose... i thought the hp was supposed to jump once vtec hit???

anyone know why my hp is not what it should be?? the guy said that the stock exhaust and cat is where im loosing the hp and that i also need a vtec controller... what do you guys think???

the 149 is with the intake filter removed..

indeed there is something wrong....that as low as my stock b16a...which makes 157whp and 112 lbs of torque with just a header, exhaust and one of my programmed ECUs.....else is stock...

check for any problems...also what kind of an intake, i heard some cone short intakes....cause the computer to go into safe mode becuse there isn;t enough cold air...so they retard the timing and run super rich...

I wanna DYNO my car! I wonder where I'm at. I don't know much about dyno numbers, but i don't think you're really that low for a GSR.... they say you loose about 15% at the flywheel. Assuming your car is 180HP stock, that would put you @ 153 WHP, which is higher than your dyno shows, and your header should help your top end HP, so I dunno. I'm kinda lost.

My bad, well in that case, you seem right about where you should be. I think a high flow random technologies cat and a nice high flowing exhaust (dragger maybe?) would suit you perfectly and give you a little edge.

I don't think you need a vtec controller just yet. Keep in mind that a lot of ITRs get low 160s when they dyno stock. So..you're not too far off.

his best run is 149 whp! still a bit low. Not every car is made the same. You might have a weak motor. I dynoed 158 whp with Comptech cai/h/e/18 deg timing and Mobil1 syn. oil.

It does seem low with the mods. I dynoed at 149.5whp and ~115 torque with the resonator box removed as my only mod. And I had the bigger wheels and tires on too.

when was the last time u changed ur oil? what type of oil too? how many miles on ur GSR?
how old are the plugs and wires?
get a fresh set of plugswires and oil change which will help a little.

i dont think u need a vtec controller. not yet. once u get bigger cams to take advantage of the higher profile lobes then u will need a vtec controller. i recommend some cam gears and ITR cams (both), vtec controller, better flowing headers and exhaust and advance ur timing to 18 and some good tuning and u should see closer to 160 or over

also your exhaust maybe one source of ur prob along with ur stock exhaust.
look at my sig, all of that minus the skunk2 mani, CAI, FPR, vtec controller i got 150 hp to the wheels untuned. (i was very disappointed) and after some suck *** tuning i got almost 6 more hp
otherwise ur about normal for almost stock GSR. not every GSr is the same.

Did you use a fan?

Btw, where did you get your car dynoed? And how much did it cost?

well the car is a 2000 gsr and it does need an oil change..the plugs would be 2 years old almost.. the intake is just a generic short ram...
ya the guy used a fan and i got it tunned at DPE...

oh and prelussion i have been on allot of the other board lately because ph has slowed down too much!!

Well, it looks like your car is missing at the top end, I reccomend a change to some fresh NGK plugs and wires. Alos change your oil and run some injector cleaner through the car. Set your timing to 18 DEG BTDC.

1. you have a 2000 GS-R. They don't exactly dyno with tons of power. I've seen 98+ GS-R's dyno in the 130s stock.

Here are my suggestions:
1. Sell that short ram and run a AEM CAI or Injen CAI.
2. Sell that header and get a JDM ITR 4-1 with a carsound cat. Talk to Carlex (trey@import-specialists.com) he got me a good price on mine.
3. Advance the timing to 18 degrees

I think you'll see much better numbers after doing those three items.

Oh yeah.. I put down 160.x hp and 118.x lbs of torque with the power steering belt on, a JDM ITR 4-1, carsound cat, AEM CAI and 18 degrees timing. (163/120 without ps belt on). My pulls were done with 4,000 or so mile old oil.. castrol gt-x non synth. I'm not a believer in synth personally.

I wouldn't be too worried with the numbers. I have a 2K gs-r too... and with an intake and exhaust I pulled 141.9 hp, and 106 (I think) ft/lbs.
I just got my car back from the shop with a whole bunch of goodies in it now. I'll come back from Cali. with dyno numbers after next friday
Didn't they modify OBDII with the 2000's? Could that be a reason for our year dyno-ing a little lower in power than the ealier tegs? Just a thought.
Got my car dynoed at silver state motorsports in Las Vegas, BTW.

People have a misconception about OBD1 and OBD2. Stock vs. stock, they should dyno the SAME!!! OBD1 does react better to mods. You might have a weak mottor, that's all! I am sure after you chang your oil, plugs and wires, you will pick up 2-3 whp. Also advance the timing to 18 deg.
I also have a 2000 GSR and it does pretty well. I made 176 whp and 125 torque with the mods below, except the JDM header. This week end I will get it dynoed again to see how much HP the JDM gave me. I hope to have 180 whp!!

1fast: yes, SHOULD, but do NOT. I have never seen a 98+ GS-R dyno with the numbers stock 95s/etc were putting down.

you NEED an EXHAUST bro.
that must be your bottleneck.
the DC header is a great weight saver, but the stock GSR exhaust manifold is not the bottleneck for a motor as lightly modded as yours.
even removing just the OEM muffler and replacing it with a quality freeflowing aftermarket unit, Apexi, HKS, Spoon, Tanabe... would be a great next move.

just my opinion....

149whp is pretty low for a GS-R with intake and headers. Mine dynoed at 159wHp with just CAI and Exhaust. Close to 160whp. But I think I got a strong motor from the factory.

Change your oil, switch to AEM. Exhaust shouldn't help a whole lot with just an Intake and Headers. Your stock exhaust should be quite fine. But yea, maybe you do have a weak motor. It seems a bit low.

I just dynoed my '01 GS-R and got 156whp and 112 torque with the mods I have listed. I was pretty happy with the hp but a little disappointed with the torque. Based on what you have it's not bad. Get a CAI and an exhaust and you'll see some good numbers.

A friend of mine has a 2000 GSR and he made 155hp with an AEM cold air intake, dc sports headers, and dc exhaust. Try to change your oil to 5w-30 and change your plugs, and get a cold air intake.
