FLASHING Maintenance Required Light
Okay, here's the deal. Yesterday when i turned my car on, the Main'd Req'd Light started blinking about 6 times and then went away. This has not happened before (at least i'm pretty sure it hasn't). I know how to reset the light but i just want to know why it would flash like that. Any info is much appreciated. BtW, it's a 99 Accord V6 Coupe.
As soon as i start the car, it flashes and then it goes away. It didnt do that before and i havent made any recent changes as far as engine work or maintenance.
That light goes off every 7500 miles and to reset it follow these steps: with the car off push and hold the reset buttom on the cluster then continue to hold and turn the key to the on position and hold until the light turns off and then it is reset. I believe that is right.

i know that the light goes on because it has gone on before and i've reset it before. i just dont know why it was flashing becaue it has never done that, it only stays on.

if you would have read a little further it would say that under severe conditions ie. stop and go driving and other scenarios which basically mean how 90% of the people in this country drive their car to change it more frequently.
also if you read even more into the owners it would explain the whole maintenance light thing and tell you how to reset it.

The reason it is flashing is because it is getting close to the time to reset it. It does state in the owners manual to change every 7500 miles but i would not suggest following that. Also i would suggest you change the trans fluid sump everytime you change the motor oil because it will help your trans last a lot longer. Just my tips.
The reset procedure only works when your headlights are turned off. Turns out I had my headlights on, using the auto-off feature and that was the problem.
