im debating whether or not to get the skunk2 stage 2 cams vs the stage 1. I will be runnin some ctr pistons to bump the compression. Head has not had any porting or anything. I was told that If I get the stage 2's I will be losing alot of torque if i dont do any head work and the stage 1's will actually make more power.(of course i will have upgraded valvetrain but as far a sending head in for machining, thats a negative for the time being. its a little pricey.)

why would a lack of head work cause you to make less power with the stage II's??

The only difference is longer duration and higher lift right? sure p&p might make a bigger difference with stage IIs but I can't see how you'd lose power over stage I.
