Yeah that is kinda od, but maybe they found something that just suted them so perfectly for the chassis they had in mind they figured why try and design something that some one else has already made perfect IE according to there project "The elise" and there are elise's that are lotus powerd if im not mistaken, i think this is a new thing they have stared for that model car jus tover that last few years.

there was a company in arizona that was selling elise's with b18c in them. they had chosen this motor because of its durability, power output, fitment and some other reasons.
with lotus officially importing the elise to the US...the rover k-series motor wasn't emissions tested and wasn't worth the money to get US ready. they would have gone with the b18c, buthonda has stopped official production of all b-series motors. the toyota was the next best choice. plus, toyota and lotus have a history in some engineering aspects of racing. lotus helped with the new toyota f1 program.
lotus did suspension work for isuzu. lotus is a huge consulting firm. kinda like cosworth.
the k-series rover engine that was being used in all european and other export elises is slowly being phased out of their production for all but the lowest 110 model.
i don't know what a b18c3 is, but i'm sure honda made one. i know there is a b18c6 and i think there was a b18c4. all built for different markets in the world.
dohc vtec eaaaater- did you change your SN? i sent you a PM the other day about your t-belt.

I thought the C3 was a JDM motor. I remember a mag interview with the head of spoon or some other high performance company concerning the b-series and he said his favorite motor was the b18c3.
As far as the elises, there was a company in the states selling an elise with a type r motor in it for like $50K. It was in motor trend magazine or something. It was faster than the mustang cobra R at the time. It's made by "sunsport" or SunXXX, i can't recall the exact name. Last i heard the elises were being brought over with the celica gts motors as stated above.....

B18C3, I haven't collected enough info on but it seems to exist.
B18C4 came in the 97 Civic VTi in Europe. Was the copy of the B18C1 but for the european market.
B18C6 from what I have gathered it is a Type R motor for the European market as well.

they would have to completly re-engineer the rear subframe to put a k-series in. lotus doesn't want to do that and doesn't want to wait until 2007-08 for the elise replacement to bring the car to america. so, the toyota engine will do. i think it is a great motor. very similiar to the b-series.
For all those who need to know:
The B18C3 didn't come in any cars in Japan, it was the stamping for all blocks ordered separately from Honda dealerships. Due to the fact that comparably few of these were ever ordered, very few exist and even fewer have been imported to the US.
Regarding the Lotus question. Sun International (www.sunspeed.com) created a kit to install a Honda B series engine into a Lotus Elise as an upgrade from the original 120 horsepower Rover K engine that they come with from the factory. The new Elise that's being sold by Lotus in the US, will have a Toyota engine and drivetrain.
