Default OEM Honda LSD v. Quaife LSD

Which is better?

Pros / cons?

Are there any viable online tech sources that describe how an LSD works?

Quaife can hold more power, has a liftetime warranty, and is only around 750 if you look hard enough. That seems pretty cheap to me for IMO the best lsd available for hondas.

The Quaife is better. It has a limitted lifetime waranty as mentioned and they wouldn't do that if it couldn't hold up. They are used in road racing all the time. The factory ITR LSD is known to break if you unload a wheel in a turn under power.

The kaaz required more maintanence, where as the quaife requires none. I've also noticed the kaaz makes a lot more noise then the quaife. Last thing, you break the kaaz..your SOL.

How hard is instalation. Do I need to find a Honda Specialty shop or would any good tranny shop be able to do a swap? Has anyone had problems with the Spedo Gear? I heard the only way to get one is on a differential.

Any tranny shop should be able to do it. Shop around.

The speedo gear is a bitch. You can take it off your stock diff but the machinist has to be very carefull pressing it off. The gear loves to break. Later designs were held on with a woodruf key and a snap ring (much better solution in my opinion)

You can get it from the dealer but they like to be stupid about these things and make claims like "you cant buy that part seperate from the diferential" Thats bullshit, they are just being lazy but you need to suck up to the parts department.

ok, the quaife is a clutch type lsd i believe. basically, it acts like a clutch and does not have the down sides as the other two type of lsd's have. it is the best choice.

I bought a Kazz right before the price dropped on the Quaiffe(they used to be $1100-1300). Im my experiences w/ the Kazz, and from what I have heard about the Quaiffe, I would definately buy the Quaiffe if I could do it all over again. My trans. sat in my garage for about two months while my b20/vtec was coming together. Now, after getting everything going again, I have to go out and spend a half-hour doing figure-8's in some parking lot to break in the Kazz-AGAIN. This is not fun. After five to ten minutes, and a couple of rent-a-cops later, it gets pretty old in a hurry. The Kazz lsd seems like a great unit on the track(road course), but does need much more attention otherwise. Just my $.02.
