Default CIVIC SI 2004 HFP package?

Hello everyone...

Trying to research the SI HFP package brought me to this site. Im not really experienced with cars and I wanted to see if I could get your advice. I checked out the civics, and like the SI's with the package... But the dealer wants around 6-7 grand extra for the package. I can't seem to justify this in my head. Wheels, tires, springs, body kit, spoiler etc... my figure comes back aroudn 3000$. Anyways, What does everyone think of this car? Has anyone had problems?

I just totalled my accord and am in the market to buy something new. I was thinknig of getting a "just get me around" car, but now I am considering something I might actually enjoy. With gas prices sky rocketing here in San Diego, I was thinking of getting something more economical. THe civic gets good gas mileage, and still has some decent power and handling so i wont crash again! I also like the fact the HFP package is covered under warranty, since there are always problems with modifications! They also say for 1500 extra they will put a 100,000 mile warranty on the car, and if i do not use the warranty, they will refund it before 100k miles.

I would appreciate any suggestions, or comments on this vehicle. the best price i got out of them was 23,500. I can get a stock one for around 17 plus fees.

(sorry for the long post!)

The HFP kit/model of the Si is a rip off, IMO. You
can probably find a leftover 03 (or even 02)
for 14-16k, at most. Unless you really like the
revised headlights/tail lights, there aren't any
major differences between 03 and 04.

The nice thing about the HFP kit is that its'
covered in the warranty and it is rolled into
your loan. However, these are also Hondas - if
you're having major warranty problems, something
is just wrong.

Personally, I'd avoid any/all add ons (extra
warranty, HFP kit, etc) and get everything
you want in the aftermarket.
$3K would get you a sweet set of wheels/tires
and an excellent suspension, plus a bunch
of other goodies to make the car faster.

I really like my Si, but I honestly wouldn't take
the HFP kit/pieces unless they were dirt cheap. Just my opinion.

thanks for the reply.
The reason why i like the package, is because everything is covered in the warranty, and installed by people that ...hopefully... know what they are doing. I have had alot of work done to my previous cars, and am really sick of dealign with problems with the modifications. I dont know why the hell they try to charge so much for the package. The first number the dealer gave me was 30,055 or something like that... plus fees. Just ridiculous. If I could get one for around 21$ I think I would do it... especially at 2.9%.

I wonder how many idiots really pay an extra 11,000$ for the hfp package. I dont want to do too many engine modifications because of the hassles which come and warranty problems. Plus, they seem to have enough hp for me... or at least now.

what do you think would be a reasonable price to pay for the 04 si with the package? what year is yours? Why did you say to avoid the extra warranty?

Thanks again.

Say you get the '04 Si for $16,5. or even $17. I'd tell them you want it out the door for $21K with everything installed. That way you're still below the price of an RSX-S, so you should be happy. They should want to move these cars and kits. Just don't be in a rush. Let us know how it turns out.

Yea, i would like to get it for 21. That seems like a fair price to me. They are so full of **** at the dealers. They put a sticker on the car for 10,000 FOR THE EXTRAS, and try to make us think they are giving us a deal for giving us: spoiler, tires/rims, ground effects, springs for 7,000!

when you say out the door for 21, do you mean... 21 then plus the new car fees and tax?

I will be sure to leave a message here what I finally get, so if any of you are thinking of getting this car, you know a good price range to start at. They say they are into the car 23,000, and would give it to me for 23,500, but i know they are full of ****. Ill let ya know.

For 21k, you could easily get a base model RSX. They go for 19k, sometimes even a bit less. Better gas mileage than the Si and better looking IMO.

Gas mileage is 27city/33hwy on the 5-spd manual.

the 04 has some suspension and steering calibrations. plus, 5-lug versus 4. i personally like the new headlights, not the tails though. if you can get an 04 for 16k, i would jump on it. save the money and maybe get the CTR kit from europe. its a little different from the HFP package. but, if you can get an 03 NEW for even less, jump on that. the EP is a really good deal when you get to the dealer. just doesn't look like a good deal when pricing it online.

What is the "EP"?? what does that refer to?

Thanks for the responses. Im gonna keep looking around. I saw an 03 for 10500, but it was after a salvage from being stolen. Everything was in decnet condition though...

EP3 = chassis code for the Si.
RSX = DC5
Old 'Teg = DC2 (I think, I'm not too familiar
with the rest).
It's also a part of the VIN code on the car (and
every car).

To re: to what I said earlier, $1500 for an
extended warranty is a rip. One, you have to
pay interest. I'd bet that you could find a whole
new engine/tranny from someone who's swapping to an RSX engine for $1500.
Plus, it's a Honda - treat it good and the
standard warranty should be more than enough.

Bottom line, don't pay over $17K for an Si,
even with a body kit. It's not worth it. With the
SRT-4 at $19K or so, the Mazdaspeed leftovers
going for even cheaper, the Si just doesn't
perform as well as those in that price range.
When you get it to 15-17K, it will look and feel
a whole lot better.

The fact that the HFP is covered by the Honda warranty really doesn't justify the cost in any way shape or form. It is very unlikely that any quality aftermarket suspension you buy is going to fail within 3 years of use. "But aftermarket parts will void my warranty." Guess what, it doesn't. If the aftermarket part causes the failure then yes, the dealership is not required to repair it. But if you have aftermarket suspension and your A/C stops working or your window motor dies or your head gasket blows, you're still covered. The burden of proof is on the dealership to prove that the aftermarket stuff caused the failure. The Moss-Magnusson act guarantees this.

So yeah, don't waste your money on the HFP or A-Spec. Both are rip offs.

wow, thank you for all the help. Maybe I will just go for a stock SI around 16500 or so, and just do some suspension, rims, spoiler, tint myself.

The regular civic warranty goes for only 36000 miles. I guess 1500 is a bit to pay for the extra coverage, but they told me if I didn't end up using the 1500, then they would give it back to me before the 100,000 is up. Does this sound too good to be true? If i did go for the 100,000 that means the whole package is goign to be warrantied for that time.

So many decisions!

Does anyone know of a good suspension/rims place in Southern Cali?

Thanks again guys.
