Just wondering, do you all get burned out? Little History.
It seems like I've been modding imports forever, even though it's only been about 8 years for me. I bought a new Accord back in 97' and got the fever. I remember going to NOPI when it was at Lakewood (anybody else?). I thought there was no way this import stuff could get larger, little did I know. I remember going to the first NIRA race in Commerce, GA and getting race fever.
Back in 98' I got my first Civic (92 hatch) and did my first swap, an LS. It ran great 13.7 @ 100 w/ bolt ons and slicks. there were only about 5 cars around here in NC with swaps that we knew of. The fastest All Motor Car in the country was running 12.25, (Skunk). I remember seeing Skunk and L'Natural for the first time in person, meeting Myles Bautista, Lisa Kubo, Tony Fuchs and a bunch more. It was awesome to see a Honda run 10's.
As time moved on my hatch got faster, eventually doing 11.9. I was happy, it was an 11 after all. Only problem, some of the Pro Stock car were about to run the unheard of, 10's. My biggest accomplishment was getting to race Skunk at Dinwiddie, but I blew my oil pump in the burnout box, which sucked.
I sold my hatch and decided to build a CRX to be competitive. I poured all my time and money into the car, trying to build it with the best parts possible at the time, (early 2000). Every paycheck going into the car, you all know the deal. And here is the final product. The car has been sitting since the late 2000 race season. It went down the track 4 times, I didn't get on it but just a bit, I wanted to make sure it would go straight. Something happened w/ the clutch that day back in 00' and I put it on the trailer. That was the last time it drove.
Eventually I sold most of the drivetrain parts. Now, 4 years later, the chassis is sitting in the garage. I'm now married and have a lot more responsibilities that require most of my time and money. Therefore, I need to sell this thing.
Sorry to be so long, but I'm just wondering, do/have you guys given up on the import scene??? It seems like most of the fun is gone for me. I used to love it. But through all the B.S. I've dealt with, it just seems like it's fading away for me. It seems like the import scene was a lot better a few years ago. Now it takes a lot of money to be competitive...I forgot to mention that I have my own shop, which probably has helped to burn me out. Anyway, I just wanted to vent a little. I need to sell this car if anybody wants it.

don't think you are the onlyl one. i was so into the scene as was my girl who loved to race....we built her hybrid hatch into a race car. After so much downtime for the build of her car back in '99 and '00 the hot rod class just got quicker and quicker... its now gonna be hard for privateers to compete so i am forced to sell also...
i would love to finish and run it, but as we get older, i guess priorties change so she's up for sale....the car not the girl....hehehe...

good story.
now what i think of to make me keep goin is how much fun i have at the track. it also helps when im the second fastest all motor car in the NW. but still even if i wasnt as fast as i am i would still do it. i think about it day, night and beyond b4 race season. im pumped, less than a month away till the gates open and the tree drops.
i do agree with u on the privateer thing though not being able to b competitive. thats what bracket racing is for. 97% of my passes are against domestics cause most imports around my area cant run the #s my car does. i just get used to it, deal with it, and flame the slow guys.

Jamie whats up. I see that your a little burnt out on the whole Import thing. Cant really blame you I get the same way as I have been messing with Imports since 95-96 when I got my first car a 69 VW Bug. Anyways do what makes you feel best and oh by the way I remember the Accord and still have pics of it. I also remember meeting you at the shop that you used to work at in Charlotte that wheel place what was it called. It was me and Kriket haha
what igntion setup is that.....no smartass "its a dis setup" comments. i mean was standalone? also it works off a crank trigger or what? sorry to hear you are out of the seen, looks like you had lots of fun back in the day.

Right now I'm in the "Sinking every paycheck into the car, but the import scene is still fun" phase. We'll see what happens in a few years.
Nice CRX, though. It looks like something to be proud of.

Nice story sorry to hear about that (leaving the import scene on drags)
I have and had the same problems as you but I'm young and I still want to push my head through the wall (old saying in our country)...I bought a hatch 90' with reason to tune it a little, so I did some mods on the suspension, engine, exterior and interior and spent lots of money on it almost every paycheck went into car so pushed from 130HP originally to 162.8HP with some mods on engine...and when I did that, it still didn't satisfied me and it crossed my mind to do B16A2 swap and now you won't belive it I spent all year putting together that engine lots of tuning in it so hopefully It'll hit the 200HP at least (on Na parts)...but medwhile I broke up with my girlfriend that I dated for two years cause he was sick and tired of me (cause I put all the money and eford in my car) and finally said it's gona' be me or the car...so I had no choice tried to back of my project but I just couldn't do it...
:0(
so what can I say I totally understand you !!!!
And with that new engine all I have is trouble...pistons rusted in the block and now when we finally put the engine together we found out that the engine block is cracked S.H.I.T and money just goes away
But lucklly my new girlfriend suports me with that project of mine and don't give me problems with puttin' all my money in car, cause he knows when I'll build it it'll be like my dream came true...I hope it'll come true very soon...
Before she leaves me ;0)
And one reason why all the paychecks are goin' in car...low paychecks in here (Slovenia,EUROPE) monthlly paycheck avarage is around 600$....
CYA
P.S.: If you want to look at my car
what I did and what em I doing to it here it is...
it's not much but it toke a lot of money and time

It is an Electromotive setup that uses a crank trigger.

You had the photo of the monkeys F ing on your car. That killed me!!! I know what your talking about being burnt out. The thing that kills me is the lack of big money for the All Motor cars. It hard to support a team mostly out of your own pocket. The traveling alone costs big bucks. If I could get paid to do this it sure would be alot funner. I would have to admit that when you win a big event it makes you forget all of the bullshit.
Hey GTP, is this Larry?? I remember when we were all running at the Rock back in the day. You had the H22 CRX w/ NOS. Those were the days. Yeah, that MONKEY picture was awesome, everybody would always do a double take, it got more attention than the car, LOL.
WHEN, you win an event it's totally fun. But on the way home I'm always like "Why do I do this?". LOL.
Type Koshir, hope you everything worked out buddy.
Hey Ringgold, my accord would kill that Sentra
What's Kricket up to anyway?

Burned out ?!! I am just getting started! Working on Imports since '83, Honda since '88, but I did not really get the bug until '99 when I dropped a GSR motor into my Civic. Started drag racing it. Ran 14's in 2001, 13's in 2002, hit the 12's last year, and looking for 11's this year
Sorry to hear that you are burned out
It is still really fun for me. Maybe this is a temporary thing and your enthusiasm will return. Hope it works out for you, no matter which way you go.

If with a little luck I put my car back on the road before the drag season this year
I have good chances to have some nice resaults on drag events cause our drag scene is at the early age...it started last year and there were just 4 legal drag race events, this year I think there wil be at least 7 events...
So we have a lot to do in the drag scene !
And you won't belive it, we don't have any offical drag place (poligon) in Slovenia :0(

Your not the only one Jamie...your not the only one. Its nice that you have a great starting point for someone that wants to be competitive and take the car to another level. I hope someone buys it from you...family and home is more important
It was sooooo much easier and so much more fun during the NIRA days...it really was. Times change though...i just hope they don't turn Racers that do very well into bracket racers because of the sanctioned bodies and thier classifications they use. Thats why i got out of it...when the NHRA killed the allmotor street classes.
I usually kill threads like this...but this once i'm leaving this because...well..i want to.

No Jamie it's Rick. Do you remember when our car caught on fire down at the Rock. That race was also when the Phat Ridz guys were still running with out the turbo. I believe we ran them in the finals. It would take alittle more than a stock H22a and some juice to beat them these days.
Yeah Rick, I remember that fire. Mike Crawford was running 11's in the neon I think. I remember we were at E-town and Larry's door blew off, gave me a sick feeling to my stomach to see that money just fly through the air. We've all been through a bunch of crap....Anybody who races does
I remember I was at NOPI in like 97' or 98' and me and some guy were chatting on the sidewalk outside just checking out everybody cruising. He told me he was starting a little magazine. It was Rodney Wills and that's when I got me first issue of TMR (Toy Machine Racing). I miss that magazine....
Lip, thanks for not deleting.

I've been racing Honda cars since about 94- what a time that was.. everything was just starting out, and people didn't know what exactly to think of a Honda revving by them. Now, everyone and their dog has a Honda and think that it's the fastest thing in the known universe. I hear ya man... I really do. I was married, my projects suffered, hell everything suffered. I've been through what you're going through, and I will tell you- after you step out and evaluate what it is that you were doing, you will see what it is that you truely want and start anew. It's hard to ever have this sport out of your mind.... but then again maybe it is.
Hey Jamie that Accord wouldnt have outran my White Coupe that I had and it never ran right. Im sure you remember that piece!!!! As far as Kricket he well I dont know what to say about him!!!
i feel you bro...wanting to be able to compete out of your own pocket is hard...i think once i stepped over the boundary of trying to build a full out drag car...that is when i started to loose interest...sucks to come so far and then have to try and sell everything at a third of the cost...sometimes less then that...either way good luck with the sale...i've been trying to sell mine forever...
