suggestions??
hey i know this topic is old and beaten to death, but i wanted to ask some related questions. i was planning on doing CTR pistons in my GSR block and i was always worried about the clearance, detonation, and so on. and in the thread about ctr vs itr pistons not too long ago that got like 7 pages long kinda convinced me otherwise, so my setup that im now looking into doing is JDM ITR pistons with a 2 layer gasket. according to c-speed, thats about 11.7:1 compression in my gsr block with gsr head. is this a good setup? i have 93 octane available to me. how much tuning is absolutely neccessary? retard timing? maybe some 310cc injectors? cam suggestions? CTR cams be good on this setup?
im looking for real answers from people who know what they are talking about. i dont need any n00bs jumping in my thread throwing around misinformation like "y0 brian from fnf told me that you can run 13:1 on street gas with no tuning, and naws", lol.
anyone that could help wpuld be greatly appreciated

I think you should be fine with that setup. stock injectors should probably do the trick. get it dynoed to make sure it doenst lean out. which cams?? stock gsr?

i dont know which cams, im just thinking of ideas at this point. i was thinking of skunk2 stage 2's, but how would CTR cams fare with this setup? i looking for a good bang for the buck, but not too hard on the wallet either, basically cost vs gains on the stage 2's vs the CTR's
You have to remember what kind of compression numbers the CTR's were designed to operate with as compared to the Skunk2's. I don't think you would have issues running either with proper tuning.
I don't see that setup hitting 11.7:1 compression without some milling though.

why not? those are the numbers straight from c-speed racing and its pretty accurate when not dealing with CTR pistons. c speed gave me 11.67xx:1 im sorry if i rounded that to 11.7, i did it for simplicities sake. i dont think .03 will make that much of a difference anyway
and i know that they are designed for different compressions, but i was just wondering what would be the best bang for the buck with this particular setup. both will provide decent gains, but if one provides a minimal amount of gains over the other while that other costs twice as much, then its not worth it, catch my drift? im looking for tht kind of comparison. and i know its impossible to tell exactly, im just looking for a push in the right direction so to speak.
thanks to everyone so far

I would recommend the CTR cams for you. There will most likely be more tuning involved with the skst2s. and probably fuel enrichment with the use of bigger injectors. And it sounds like you want to keep it pretty basic without spending too much so def go with CTR cams, valvesprings, retainers. There will be nice gains still with good reliablilty with oem parts.
thanks, thats the kind of response i was looking for
.you are right, i just want a basic build the first time, so i dont have to do too much tuning. thanks for the info
