gasoline getting into my oil?!?
last time i changed my oil it smelled like gasoline was gettin into it but i didnt think much of it. now today i checked it and took the oil cap off to see if it still smelled like that and it smelled pretty strongly of gasoline. so my question is....is this normal? if not then how do i fix this. the only way i can think of how its getting into my oil is through the valve seals or guides. and if i needed new valve guides or seals then i'd be burnin oil but im not so i dont know how the hell this is happening. btw 95 h23a1 70k miles bone stock

i dont think im running rich because i dont notice any smoke, i pulled the spark plugs and they look normal, gas mileage is about average i guess 350ish to the tank with hard driving every now and then. btw i did a compression test and the numers were good. so im stumped on this. anybody else have any comments??

Are you sure that it isn't coming from a leak around the fuel rail or the lines? The only way that I could see fuel getting into your oil is if it's getting past the rings, but then you should have bad compression.
i dont have a leak around the fuel rail or injectors. you cant smell it unless you take the oil cap off and sniff inside. compression numbers were all good within 5psi in all cylinders so i dont know how its gettin in there. as long as it doesnt hurt the engine then i guess i'll deal with it but it just seems kind of weird for the oil to smell that strong of gas.

but thats the thing....im only burning like a .5qt every 3k miles with a good bit of hard driving so i think thats about normal. plus my motor only has 70k on it and its a h23 btw.

i dont really know. so your saying this could be somewhat normal?
thanks

Have you flooded your engine lately?
If not, it is normal... When you start your engine, some gas will not burn and end up mixed with the oil.
With this said though, it is possible that you have an overzealous fuel regulator (too much pressure), Head damage or piston/ring damage). Hard to say without some tests.
I would leave it for now and make sure that you change your oil regularly. If it starts smoking or you are dumping 1 gallon of gas a day in your oil, then it will be time for a new motor...

Had a diesel tractor one time that had more oil every time I checked it. Turned out the injector pump had a bad seal and diesel was leaking into the crankcase.
Ring blowby is the only realistic way I can think of that fuel would get into the crankcase of a H23. Do don't have anything wierd with the way the valve cover breather hoses are routed do you? Or some weird catch can setup maybe? It may be normal if you do a lot of short trip driving where the oil barely has time to get up to temp. On longer trips all the water and volitile blowby crap gets cooked out of the oil.
