Good LSD for '99 Civic Si
I've had a lot of people tell me the Quaife is good, and I'm seeing a lot of JDM OEM EK9 Civic Type R LSD's for <$300. How would these two compare? I currently have a Phantom Grip with upgraded springs, and it is absolutely useless when powering out of a turn, the inside wheel spins freely and I go nowhere. I have a lot of torque (JRSC kit with 10 lb pulley). I want this for autocross use.
Thanks,
Roger

I used a Quaife with my JRSC on my Si. The gap between the phantom grip and the OEM CTR LSD is something like the gap between the OEM LSD and the Quaife in my opinion.
the type of lsd yo get depends on the maintence you want to do on it. if u dont mind pulling the diff out to rebuild it, go ATS d20. if you dont want to have to rebuild it, do quaife.

The Type-R LSD, I've determined that for my purposes the Phantom Grip is not worth very much at all. I'm just trying to justify the extra money for the Quaife. I should probably also ask what type of LSD the OEM unit is. Is it a clutch type or a helical? Is the ITR LSD the same as the JDM Civic Type-R LSD? I just can't find a lot of info on the OEM LSD's.

So it's the same type as the Quaife, but the Quaife is just a better implementation? I called the Quaife people and they couldn't give me very much info comparing theirs to the OEM unit, but they did assure me that theirs was better and that I should buy it. I guess the other question I need to ask is how much power can the OEM unit handle. If I go turbo and end up putting 400 H.P. through the OEM unit, might it grenade?
If you don't want to change the ring gear and update it to the physically larger ITR/CTR/GS-R 4.400 you can always go for an EG6/EK4 OEM LSD.
If not, you will have to change to a bigger final drive anyway, why not take this time to upgrade to a 4.785 unit?

I have a Kaaz LSD in my Si and it works great! Its a clutch type LSD so it does need to be rebuilt every once in a long while and it does require special tranny fluid which I change every other oil change. It is a lot more maintenance than Quaiffe but Kaaz performs better. It all depends on what you are lookin for.

Good point, the Quaife people said they don't care how much power I put through their LSD. The engine was built for up to 700HP, but I only plan on making 400HP with it.
