Default Custom Exhaust Questions???

Alright well i am buying parts to do a custom job on my ITR, already i have bought an Apexi N1 universal muffler and a Carsound 2.5" highflow cat, I still need to buy my exhaust piping which will be 2.5" Mandrel bent SS pipes and i an going to buy a DC Sports JDM 4-1 header.

The question i have is should i buy a resonator for the exhuast system or not? If i don't get it what does that mean? Is not having a resonator going to make my exhaust hella loud?

Thanks guys

I am running the exact same setup.. Except w/a T1R muffler. I ran it beforehand w/out the resonator, and later welded one in because it was too loud to auto x w/.

It really depends on what you are accustomed too, my friends w/open header seemed to think it was not bad..

I would pick up the res unless you are used to a very loud car.

Also, if you have a muffler shop install it, make sure you are very specific in what you want.. My shop seemed to think they should weld every piece of my exhaust together, instead of using the slip fit and also forgot to make room for the O2 sensor

I ran an N1 without a resonator. Dear god was it loud. I would never do something like that again, unless i was a track only car.

Well... an N1 muffler is going to be loud regardless, but without a resonator it will be rediculously loud... you should definitely get a resonator.

Everyone who complains about loud custom exhausts usually isn't running a resonator.

It might seem like a good idea to skip it at first, but eventually, it'll drive you nuts!

I would get the resonator. Not only will it help control sound, but it will sound deeper and smoother. Every exhaust I heard that did not have a resonator was extremely loud and sounded like ****.

If you want to be an obnoxious ricer, sure, get a straight b-pipe with no responator with that N1 you have. It's ridiculously loud and obnoxious.

Otherwise, get a resonator.

Chris - who hates loud exhausts around town.

I have no resonator on my exhaust. It's not so much that its loud, but more that it buzzes really bad above 5500. I'm waiting to send back this resonator I have in exhange for a new one.

I have a 2.5" in/out, 14" long, 4" body stainless magnaflow resonator here if anybody wants to buy it.

You can still weld the slip joints. Personally, I like the slip joints and use them wherever I can. If you butt weld all the piping together, the weld penetrates into the piping pretty ugly....unless the weldor backpurges the piping while welding.

I wish somebody like Dave was around my area to do custom exhaust stuff properly with the right materials on-hand.

743: How much did you want for that resonator? I'm in the market for one and trying to feel out my options and pricing.

Magnaflow has two stainless resonator options: 74416 (743's) and the Magnapak 14495, which is 2.5" IN/OUT with an 18" resonator (23" total length). Kteller has the 74416 for $65.00, but I'm gonna check with Summit to see how much.

I used to run a custom 2.5" cat/catback to a 2.5" magnaflow wideopen muffler. that was WAY too loud. I recently put on a glass pack in the middle of the b-pipe. That did help but it's still loud
