Default Potenza S03 or Toyo RA1?

I was looking at these tires and they both seems to be priced very closely......Which one of these would make a better track tire?

Yokohama A032R, Kumhos, or Hoosiers. Why bother with S-03 and RA1?

Default Toyo RA1

The Toyo RA-1 makes an excellent long warring track tire. Unless you have a lot of wet weather they are at their best when shaved or after a few sessions to reduce tread depth.

I've used both the RA-1 and the A032R at the track and I like the RA-1 better. Mind you the treadwear rating on the Toyos is only 40 - so they are going to wear out faster than the Yoko's. Sidewall stiffness is about the same for both.

My observations of the Toyo's is that they are initially "greasy" when they have a lot of tread and progressively get better and better until they cord. Many of the racers who use RA-1s use "shaved" versions which act very much like slicks. For occasional track use, the RA-1 is a much more economical choice than Hoosiers. They also have much more progressive break-away than Hoosiers - and more audible feedback for beginners. I would stay away from Hoosiers if you are a beginner/novice - you're not getting your money's worth out of the tires.

Potenza S03s are a great street/track tire - but they would probably chunk if you used them at a track with a rough road surface - but you will have better grip using ANY R compound tire.
