clutch for 93 prelude si
ok my cluth started slipping then all of a sudden it dosnt move at all now and i dont even need the clutch to put it in gear. is this only the clutch gone bad? i already bought a new clutch. am i able to put this in myself and what tools would i need and would i need to put my car up on stands or anything..? and if not whats the usual cost of getting a clutch put in at a mech shop
Changing out a clutch is no simple job. You need to able to remove the tranny from the engine so you will need a lift and a transmission stand. That and some hand tools. Also a clutch alignment tool which is just a cheap peice of plastic with splines on it. My guess is a shop will charge you anywhere from six hundred to eight hundred dollars unless you know a good shop that does cheaper work. And also even if your clutch is fine you can still shift the car without using the clutch. You just have to find the exact shift point and it will go into the next gear this also works for downshifting however it will take a lot of practice to be able to master this technique.
It could be either your clutch disc or the pressure plate that is the culprit. Also you may have something wrong with your shift linkage or throw out bearing. Kind of hard to tell unless youve got the tranny apart and you can see all these things.
