403s vs. sK2 stage 2 cams dyno's personal comparisons??
Hey guys, I've been running the crower 403s in my car for about a year and a half with portflow/ITR springs and portflow retainers (over 40k miles!!). I've had absolutely no problems with this setup... Soon it will be time for another rebuild and I'm considering swapping cams with either Skunk2 stage 2s or Jun 3s.
What are your thoughts on this? Would it be worth it in my case? My new block, will be a 2.0L about 13:1cr, up from my current 1.8L 11:5:1 setup. With the crowers I managed 204whp with a ported head a cheap greddy 4-2-1 header and other miscelaneous bolt ons...
I don't need to hear about crowers not being reliable because in my case they have been. I just want to see dynos or hear of someone who's went from the 403s (specifically) to the other companies' listed (Sk2/JUN), and what gains/losses resulted. Please don't comment unless you've had PERSONAL experience... Not what you heard your next door neighbor's cousin's aunt's sister's boyfriend's brother made on his car.
Thanks

I did the opposite of what you are doing. My motors were more mild than yours but this is what I saw. I had S2S2's in my 11.9 Type R and made good peak numbers but the cams were very "peaky." The low end and mid-range sucked. I put the Crower 403's in and never got a chanve to tune it, but now I have them in a 11.0 B16 and they make more power and torque up to 5000 rpm than the 1.8 did.
Smote, you mentioned that you had the 403's in a B16. How are they compared to stock B16 cams in the low end and what is you shift point? Also what intake manifold were you using on both Type R and B16?
ttt
common... there's gotta be more people who've had experience with these cams, especially since there's so much talk about how much they "suck" or don't make power...

I never had stock cams in the B16 but I can tell you that the 403's are great cams for the money. Actually they are good if you don't even consider the price. I was running an ITR IM & TB on both setups. The low end is great with these cams and I'm shifting them from 8800-9200.
Smote, Do you have dynos of the 1.6 and the 1.8? I am assuming that 11.9 Type R and 11.0 B16 is the compresion of the motors. Correct?
You are correct in assuming that 11.9 and 1.0 are the compression ratios. I do have the dyno graphs but I don't have a scanner.
