supporting the motor while dropping tranny?
i should be getting the tranny out today but i need to know how i can support it i dont have an engine hoist nor do i have the money to buy or rent one. i know that i can jack it up but where, and do i need to cushion it or something, like with a piece of wood? thanks guys!
the motor is fine being held in by just the 3 mounts. It will sag about 1-2 inches, but this will actually make it easier to get out.
if you decide to make it easy on yourself and remove the front cross member also, do that first, and then use a floor jack and put it under the front motor mount. Then remove the tranny mount.
If you're concerned about supporting the tranny, you should be able to handle it fine with a friend.
I had someone on the passenger side, underneith the car, lifting it slightly to take the pressure off the input shaft, while I sat on the valve cover and slid the transmission off the motor, while holding it from above.
