FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE ANAHEIM, CA 03/05/04
Special Projects Dropping First Honda Challenge Round
The decision to drop the first round of the Honda Challenge series has been made by the Team manager and lead driver, Jeff ( Kiwi)Owen.
After a hectic two months of working every spare hour on the construction of the team’s three H1 Type R Integra’s It was decided that in spite of the magnificent effort put in by the whole team that there was just not enough time to get the cars ready before the opening round of the Honda Challenge series at California Speedway this Saturday. At a 6.30 am breakfast meeting at Denny’s after yet another all night thrash installing two brand new engines which were only received from the engine builders the previous afternoon, the sleepy team members reluctantly conceded that they would not be doing the team, the cars or the sponsors any justice if they turned up at the first event untested and unprepared to dominate the series as has always been their intention.
However, the Team will be hosting an open day at Special Projects Motor Sports Race Shop at 1638 Clementine Street. Anaheim, CA 92802 on Sunday March 14th. Where there will be an unveiling of the re built # 66 JDM Integra driven by Kiwi. As well as the brand new # 65 car which is being constructed, and will be driven by Sandor (Shawn) Bota. As well as Shawn’s former H1 Integra # 64 which is being re constructed and will be driven by John McNulty?
Representatives of some of the team’s sponsors, the three drivers and the whole crew will be on hand to discuss the cars, racing, and to answer any questions. Special Projects Motor Sports wish to thank all of our team members for their enthusiasm and dedication to making this team a force to be reckoned with. We owe a special thanks to Shawn Bota for his UN tiring devotion to the construction of what will undoubtedly be one of the best prepared Honda Challenge touring cars in 2004. Shawn is certainly earning his drive.
At least two of the team’s cars will be undergoing testing over the next couple of weeks in preparation for the next Honda Challenge race at Buttonwillow on April 3rd.
The Special Projects Motor Sports team would like to thank (Team owner) Mr. Don Wilson. If it wasn’t for Don’s backing and enthusiasm, none of this would be possible.
And a special thanks to all of our sponsors.
Good luck to everyone in 2004

Thanks,
I'm sure no one will be disapointed...
We're very proud of the way the first two cars are coming together. That's why we pulled out of the first round. There was no point showing up with un tested equipment. We went to California Speedway on Saturday to check out the competition and we are quietly confident that we will stirr things up at the Buttonwillow event.
Congratulations to Tom Laing on a very good drive on Saturday. I was very impressed with the way you handled your new found Horsepower. You really gave Varo a run for his money! I did not hear how you did on Sunday. We will be watching you...
Congrats also to Derek Stevens ( Kiwi 2) Nice job.
Our Team owner was going to rent me a drive in Tom Leppers Accord on Sunday so I could get some points, but I declined as I did not feel that it would be fair on my two Team Mates, Shawn and Johnny Mac.

Tom Liang was boning the **** out! it goes to show that a 2200 lb car with a nice B series can still be crazy fast.

2600 lb RSX, and you drove it pretty well Hope. why is that car so heavy?! RO_JA wheels? something under the hood that you wouldnt show us?

Look forward to seeing you guys at the next event, and seeing John Mac in a "real" H1 car this time! If john was that quick in a lil CRX D series, then he'll be really fast in his teg.

Varo wasnt pushing that hard. Because Tom was flying out of every corner and could have destroyed 2 cars. His and Varos. But good job for both of them
You should see Varos incar video to see where Tom was running to? Maybe to the next shortcut? or to 7/11?
Just kidding TOM you did a great job driving that overpowered car for the first time.

Here we go again. Guys,Varo will not run for any money. Don't forget 24 years of racing. His been in 70HP fiats to 360HP Volga rally car, he has the technique that will take Me, Edik, Shawn, Tom, Andy 20 years and different types of cars to even come close to his level. So when you guys say that he was running from Tom, no it was the other way around, Tom was chasing Varo with his mighty LSVTEC.

I didn't notice any pics of Johnny Macs car(?) Wish you guys were at Fontana- I look forward to seeing you guys ButtonWillow.
The Autocannon Crew rules! Your H1 contender Civic went from something like a theft recovery to full blown race car in less than a month. Sam, Lee, and Tim are the ultimate crew guys. It goes to show that sleepless nights and IV delivered Red Bull are the hot ticket to effective racecar preparation. Dennis, after a little time in your car and some suspension tweaking (not to mention a switch to shaved RA1's) you will fly. I'm looking forward to seeing you guys at Buttonwillow next month.

Yeah, I know just what you mean. I think Sam and Lee like being asked if they would like to change a tranny at 1 in the morning with almost no sleep. They thrive on events like the 25 hours (BTW, I'll never forget the 2003 version of the 25 hours)
The Teins should work awesome. Just make sure that they are valved for your spring rates and you'll fly. The aerodynamics are the last of my worries right now. I've got a spec World Challenge wing on the car right now (HPM) and it looks like it has a decent aerofoil. Actually, I think the aluminum C-West wing is probably the best bet and I hope to get one sometime this year befor I mold my own in CF. No splitter yet, but I hope to have one on the car for Buttonwillow.
