breaking down an R motor
OK guys i'm gonna give you a quick run down of my situation. I'm currently running a JDM B18C type R motor in my EK. This is the second motor that i get that smokes like a *****. The motors have both been Super clean inside and out, but i still get the whitish smoke mostly on deceleration. I have done my research and I have come to the conclusion that its my valve stem seals. Here is where i need your advice, I'm thinking of going into the motor to clean out my rings and replace old bearings etc... Since i am going to pull the head off I was thinking of maybe doing some mild porting. I have a friend that knows how to port but then again he's no EXTRUDE HONE or anything like it. Will a mild porting and cleaning up be to any advantage. I dont have the $$ to send out the head and match it up with a set of cams. I was thinking of getting a good headgasket, rod bearings and valve stem seals, but I dont know what to go with. TIA
if this so called friend doesnt do the porting for a living and/or doesnt have a flowbench sittin in his garage to prove his techniques i say ur better off leavin it stock. ITR heads arent bad bone stock. leave it and save the money for something thats goin to get done right.
