I just picked up a first gen b16 and I was looking through the exhaust ports and I noticed cyl#2 valves were really shiny and while the rest were dirty black, and that both valves horizontal gouges on the valve stem bout cm from top of the port, maybe mm or two deep. Is this a bad Sign?

If the exhaust valve is shinny then I would check the valve stem seal to see if its leaking.

 

Have the two valves possibly been changed?
