Buying a theft title ITR - insurance question
i know of a type r i can get a hold of for 5500, it was stolen earlier and then bought by a guy at a local shop here in PA, he has put back on the 5 lug, however it still has no motor, i was wondering if anyone has bought a car in this shape and was able to work out something with an insurance company to bring down the rate some since its not a real type r anymore without that b18c5, because last time i went and got a quote, under my name as a 20 year old insurance on an R was over 3000 a year, and on the sheet the words PERFORMANCE MOTOR were highlighted, oh well just a though lemme know if anyone has heard anything like this before.

I havent looked into insuring one yet, but if you decide not to buy that theft recov. let me know.
Take out a personal loan and keep liability on it until your situation changes and u can afford full coverage. I know its a risk but u get the R you want and dont pay out the wazoo.
I bought mine as a theft recovery. Insurance rates are the same whether it's a clear title, or a theft. Put it this way, a theft recovery ITR is just as likely to be wrecked or stolen as a clear title one, so the insurance will charge you just the same.

Most insurance companies with insure it but only with liability not comprehensive. When I was under Allstate my 95 Civic had full coverage but with Geico they would only do liability on it.

Compound that by the fact that some states won't let you register a vehicle without a clear title (ie salvage, rebuilt or theft).
The original poster needs to make two phone calls.
1) DMV, to verify that it can be registered, tagged and legally driven on the streets
2) HIS insurance company, to verify they will insure it

Mine says salvaged/rebuilt. In NY, you can register it as long as the necessary parts are replaced and its safe for the road.
as far as the insurance goes, what motor do you plan to put in it? if you expect them to negotiate on the rate, you will probably have to prove to them that its not an ITR motor. Even then, chances are you are gonna put in a "performance" type motor so I doubt they are gonna change the rate. Unless you go with a D15 automatic haha.
