Some OEM HID questions....Gen 3/4....d2s/d2r.....???
Well I just got my hella bi-xenons in the mail, and now I need some ballasts and capsuls. What is the difference between oem Gen 3 and Gen 4 ballasts? and what is the difference between D2S and D2R capsuls?
As far as I know, the ballasts should all be the same.
D2S = projector capsules
D2R = reflector capsules
D2R is on the left. Notice the ceramic coating on the shaft of the capsule.

Interesting. Never knew that. What years differentiate the gen3 and gen4 ballasts?

Is $223 shipped for Gen 4 ballasts and D2S capsuls a good price, or no? Or should I got w/Gen 3? Is there any advantage/disadvantage w/either? Help

I prefer Gen3 (if Philips LVQ-212 ballasts are considered Gen3) w/ the integrated ignitor, just because it's alot less mess and wires involved, makes for alot neater installation. If you opt to run the ballasts directly off the stock headlight harnesses (which you can) all you have to do is plug the low beam harness into the ballast and plug the ballast high voltage cord into the bulb.
can't you just use your stock low beam harness in the gen 4, then the wire for the ignitor goes directly on the back of the projector where the ignitor goes? Or am i missing something? but performance wise, is there any difference between the 2?

Oh well yeah I guess, I was thinking of kits like Catz that have separate ballasts and igniters, and you have to mount both of those somewhere, and you have wires running between each one, and most likely it would be a headache trying to get it all mounted up and looking neat.
