Default Charcoal Canister?

In a week or so I plan on pulling my B16 out of my 91 CRX si and doing a lot of work to it. I figured since it was out I wanted to clean up the engine bay. I have noticed on other CRXs that they dont have that huge stupid looking charcoal canister. I read up on it in my Haynes and they say it takes the fuel vapor and returns it to the motor or fuel tank, something like that. I want it out. Is there any way I can do with out? Like bypass it?

Its that big ugly black thing about 3in to the left of the throttle body on the firewall.

Hope I explaioned myself well enough and you guys know what Im talking about.

Thanks

Matt

im not totally sure if you can remove it, but if someone infact does tell you that you cannot, it should be very easy to relocate to where you cannot see it.

it's part of emissions control, expect to get a CEL and fail any emissions tests.

Well as somebody who doesnt have one and somebody who has done it to many cars it causes no problem just make sure you run a longer vaccume line from the firewall vent to the ground to keep unwanted fumes under the hood.
There is alot of crap you can remove if you dont have emmisions.

so pretty much what do i do to elminate this canister?

Just connect the 2 vacume lines that go into it?

I need to pass emissions, so should it stay put?

Why would you get a check engine light ? There is no sensor hooked up to it. You can remove the canister but if the emissions place checks for it, you fail.

Would removing the canister affect the car performance-wise?

its part of the evorative emissions... dont **** with it if you can't figure out how to bypass it just by looking at the diagram on the bottom of the hood.

while your at it re-do your pcv and valve cover to intake breather with a home-made catch can! gets rid of all sorts of nasty stuff on the engine and around... if you do it right it won't throw codes

If you have a newer motor there usually isnt a place to hook up the charcoal canister. look at my engine i only have one vacuum line which is the fuel pressure regulator and the brake booster.

just run the vacuum line down as was said up top.

Think of it this way B-B-K!
"That's my air your polluting by leaving the cannister off!"

How would you like it if I did the same to your Mother, or your baby?

That Cannister has a very real function. Leave it there and leave it connected.

It is going to affect gas mileage as well! The fuel vapors that it puges back into your intake will no loger be burned again. So in the long run it will eventually wear away at yor pocket!

It appears we have a cadre of 'Rube Goldberg' modifiers who believe the SAE engineers at HONDA just dont know what they are talking about and aren't in the real world of the dismantlers and re-engineers.

The next project B-B-K can work on wiill be a Flatulance re-circulating device for the Bovine Quadroped's. Whose Flatulance is mentioned by some as the real danger to the Ozone layer.

Meanwhile, back in "want's to be important ville" B-B-K would be well advized to leave the Charcoal cannister in place. Paint it a nice shiny black if you want to, and hose it off once in awhile.

It works as advertized.
Does not affect performance in any way!
With it in place you wont have any 'flash fires' while in heavy stop n go traffic on a warm summer day.
And of course you wont have any problems with the Referee.
