Default New addition to the familily -- STUNTBIKE!!!

Me and my buddy spankjelly (sean) on this board are adding a new bike to the garage besides the 2 954's, a 1989 Suzuki Katana 600. Thats right. The bike needs a little bit of work, but for right now mods are ; Rust, wight reduction (plastics removed), and a vance and hines exhaust. Plans are a flat black paint job, stunt cage, and something like -1/+6...give or take a couple teeth. Pics just don't do this bike justice, its so clean you could eat off it.

haha, nice

I use my ex500 as my stunt bike. Man i need to gear the hell outta it tho. Takes so much rpms to bring it up when going slow, this is even with my left foot on the rear peg

The bike was actually free, one of our friends bought it just so he could have the trailer it came on. He doesn't know much about bikes so he's giving it to us for free. As of now its not running, It likely needs a bottom end rebuild, but if we can find a motor for cheap we'll probably just swap. I guess we'll see what happens. Should be a fun project.

Yeah, we have all the plastics for the bike right now, and they are actually relatively clean. Couple scrapes here and there, but that is to be expected.

Does anyone have any ideas about the gearing on this bike. I want to be able to bring the front end up relatively easy through first and maybe second....but at the same time maintain a descent top speed. I was thinking maybe -1/+2???

-1/+2 is good enough. Even a stock bike can be clutched-up into a wheelie. Shorter gearing just makes it easier. Riding out takes experience and practice. Don't forget to wear your gear all the time.

The only thing I'm worried about is that my gear is worth like 10 times what the bike is. Guess I'll just have to be careful...or something.

Just out of curiousity, does anyone know what we should be able to get a used '89 motor/or short block for??? I was thinking like $200-$300???

i think you should gear it -1/+10. You would probably still have the rev the **** outta it to bring it up when doing slow wheelies w/ -1/+2. Topend might be like 20-30mph off tho.

Topend would be off 20-30 witha -1/+10??? Thats not so bad, i'd like the bike to still be able to do interstate speeds ok.

I'm -1/+2!! I can clutch mine up right into an 11:30 wheelie from a stop with no problems . . . BUT, if you don't really plan on doing too much highway riding, go -1/+10, you'll find that really slow stuff is next to impossible without that kind of gearing (-1/+2) because the engine won't idle low enough . . . Me I ride my bike everywhere, so going up that high would suck really bad . . . But hey, if you got the bike for free, maybe you can come up with a trailer for it too

Yeah we wont be riding this bike everywhere at all, the most is just stuntin on some roads close by. It would be nice if it still did about 100, just so if we do need to put it on the interstate we could without toping the thing out. Ill save the 954 for that!!
