Newbie to Honda's. Just bought an '89 Civic DX.
I'm lookin for general knowledge here. I see all these codes floating around referring to engine models, etc. I've never owned a Honda before, but my mechanic is really good with them, so I bought one for a daily driver. I may eventually fix it up a little, but for now I'm just looking for direction.
Here's the deal: I bought an '89 Civic DX w/only 97K miles on it. It has the FI 16Valve motor, but it has an auto tranny. The body on it is solid, but the engine is leaking a little oil near the cam seal. I'm not sure if it's the cam seal or the valve cover, or maybe even the head.
What I'm looking for is just general information about this car. I am looking to do a manual tranny swap, since I really hate autos. From the sounds of it, this isn't too hard to accomplish.
I consider myself mechanically able, but I'm no expert. I've done various mechanical work to my truck, my previous vehicles, and try to do all mechanic work myself.
Any input would be great, I hope this site will be a great tool.
Thanks,
Matt

search, this everything you have in mind for the car has been covered in detail many times over. Use the search function, it's a life-saver.
yuor going to have to get the manuel pedals also the man. shifting rod and man. ecu i'm sure theres more put i'm a few deep somebody else help by adding the rest.
The engine you have is either a D15b or D15b2. You can tell by looking, from the front of the car, at the motor. Look down to the left of the header for a flat slab of metal coming off the block. You'll see numbers on it.
As far as learning goes, I would by a repair manual, Helms preferably. It is sort of expensive, but you'll never have to buy another manual.
The auto to manual conversion isn't the hardest thing in the world but you should definately do the research. Try the search button up in the right hand corner. You'll find a wealth of information there.
Other than that, welcome aboard.

CRX manual:

A hard copy is nice but this should get you started.
1. Ditch that auto. Get a properly geared transmission(Like a Si, not a DX or HF) because it makes all the difference in the world.
2. Ditch the DPFI setup and go MPFI.
Your appreciation for the car will increase exponentially

Sounds good. To be honest, I'm far beyond a helms manual for most repairs. I was really looking for more technical specs on the car. I'll have to do some more research. Yeah, I know all about the search button. I just wanted to get some general information about the car, since I don't know the technical terms to search for, being that I've never owned a Honda before. I will definately use it first for any specific questions that I have, as I am a member of another site, and am well aware of all the same questions being asked over and over.
Thanks.
Thanks.
