Default A testament to the Lude's Gas Mileage

I recently got and idea that I should see how far I can drive the car on one tank of gas. Since I drive round trip to work at like 40mi, this wasn't a hard thing. I had the last LED lit (4th gen) on my gas gage for atleast 80 miles when I felt the car sputter. I was on my way to get gas actually. The car died right when I got into the gas station. No power stearing was not fun. The trip read 425.7. That was the most I have ever gotten. I bet that if I never beat on the tank, I could have gotten real clost to 500. I know that its not good, and that the contaminents could clog my fuel filter and harm the engine, but I was curious to see when the gas light came on. BTW, it NEVER did. In any case, when I got my tank filled, the meter on the gas station read 16.12 gallons, but I know that a 4th gen Gas tank is only 15.9 Gallons. Wonder how ofter those things are checked for calibration?
Anyway, jsut wanted to share my champoinship on the tank, and failure on the light.
Cheers

i've gotten 17.5 gallons into an empty tank before.

patience is the key to getting that much gas in there.

Im lucky if I get 300 miles per full tank, I am heavy footed though.

I spend like 30$ a week commuting not including my other travels.
The GMC Suburban we gots spend 70-80$ a week same commute.

I get aboiut 380 per tank with a few spirited driving. I think I cna get into the low 400s if I drove it properly.

I usually take my car up to 2500rpms if no one is behind me. If someone is...I take it to 3k. Really reflects in the gas mileage department. That way I don't feel as bad driving it hard when I do.

4th gen tank must be bigger than the 5th gen's . . . (despite the same advertised size of 15.9 gallons). I've run mine bone dry several times, and never been able to fit more than 14.5 gallons back into it.

425 miles to the tank is pretty darn good, though - that about matches what I've been able to do @ 29.5 mpg. Although I have to be more careful now since my low-fuel light stopped working. I used to be able to go 90 highway miles after the light turned on, and that was just about the entire tank.

The most I've gotten to date was 360 miles. This was driving 70mph on the freeways and I had like 2 bars left on the gas gauge. Is there a light that comes on for the digital dash? I'm not sure how many more miles I can go with 1-2 bars left. Anyone know?

I sometimes dont fill up till my low fuel light comes on.
and it usually takes right around 14.0 gal.
in my 93

so looks like honda left about a 50mile window in there.

I've put about 58L into the 4th gen one time..damn that was close haha.

My built motor still got 27MPG on the highway. And that was at 4-5k all the time (90-100MPH)

who wants to drive around with a extra 100lbs of gas?

i think theres to "invisable" bars after the last one disapears for good. ive gone probly 40+ miles a while after the last bar dissapeard , ended up walking

running a gas tank dry is not very good. air might getting into the fuel lines and give you improper mixtures. Also the last fuel in the tank that goes into your engine is usually the most dirty as all the debris that usually float to the surface are getting put through the fuel lines all at the same time.
