Default 180 degrees off ?

Okay gents i think i mess up in the head again. what is meant by being 180 degrees off. because in the manual it states that, Turn the distributor counterclockwise to advance and clockwise to retard. Now when i go counterclockwise it seams to want to die like its retarding when i go clockwise it sounds like it advances. please advice needed

Eingh?

In either case it will sound like its dying if you're too far off. I doubt its 180 deg off, cause the eingine wouldnt run. Your ehxuast valves would open when the intake valves should.
