Default $3000 to spend on an engine. I want reliable speed.

my other thread got way off topic, so instead of wasting my time i figured i'd repost.

Ok, i want to do all the work myself. I want it to be a relatively straightforward process. I have heard how difficult the crvtec's are and all that. i have 3000 to work with. what do you guys reccomend i do to get the most power? i need to include all expenses in this: mounts, exhaust, fluids, lsd, etc.

what engine should i go with? the h22's are ~200hp and still relatively cheap. but im not sure how much the hidden costs are with them...

thanks in advance.

damnit. forget the h22 idea. they sit waaay too low, and the oil pan would last about a week where i live.

I'd say go with a LS motor and with the money you got left, piece together a turbo kit. I think for daily driving, the B18B will move the Del Sol better than a B16 with it's extra torque. The Del Sol isn't exactly a light car either. This is just what I would do though.

del sol is 2301lbs.

i dont feel like piecing together stuff. i want this to be reliable, not junkyard and ebay parts for a turbo kit.

I say a straight B20 swap. Good torque, not a difficult swap (just as easy as a b18).

No, this engine is a dohc non vtec motor. It comes from a crv (or an old prelude which i dont know much about). Depending on which one you get you will have to swap intake manifolds. Im not sure which ones bolt to that head though.

A b20 can be made "vtec" by adding a vtec head to it from a b16, b17, or gsr. This requires some extra work though.

I would suggest getting an ls if you dont want to have to do any extra work.

people usually like ls because of its cheapness and those few extra tq....me personally I would go b16 and not by a swap or anything stupid but peice one together either a real cheap long block or a short block and a head each cheap...grab a tranny cheap and same with ecu....grab some hasport mounts and your set...I have a b16 back-up swap for my car and I only paid a grand...took me about a month to peice together but its all about patients...and if I ever need money badly I can always sell it for 1500-2000 and make mney on it...

buy an ls swap and buy a drag or greddy turbo and slap it on. you should be able to get this for 3000 or under and it will be quite fast easy and fun.

what ever you do take your time and be patient. it would suck to find a supposed deal, blow all our money on an h22 or b18c only to have it blow up and be back to square one. i would say for 3g's you should go b18b. the long block and tranny shouldn't be more that a grand. then get new cams, cam gears, head work, ecu and some dyno time. in a del sol the torque and reliability of a b18b should be perfect for around town and some occasional beating on. all of this can be done with b20 as well but might be a little more and some more pieces are needed as mentioned above.

Thats the same thing you said in my post? I would get a h22. Overall, It would be the most enjoyable! And don't sweat the oil pan, just get a mount kit like hA SPORT, there won't be a clearance issue!

it seems it would be the best bet... i want to ditch power steering, so i can save money not buying the extra parts for that....
the h22 is 1900 at osaka, and 2199 at hmotors for the complete changeover.

-is the del sol cable or hydro tranny? because the h22 is hydraulic.

that would be a great price for a swap if all i need is the h22 complete changeover and some mounts...

god damnit forget that, i dont feel like buying new axles every 6 months.
