I figured that everyone probably has some clips from the NASA weekend at VIR - so I started a thread....
Here's a quick & silly clip I made from HPDE...please no comments on my bad driving & bad lines at times...

Nicely done vid,
. Out of curiousity, what camera/rollbar/mount were you using, and how exactly did you mount the camera (Ex: standard screw it down real tight, add little strap thing)?

The camera is a Canon zr-60 (only about $300) & I'm using the io-port camera mount ($85 at stable-energies.com) with the included safety strap....you can actually find a cheaper mount for about $40

Group 2 student, driving their mirrors, not executing instructions, not carrying enough speed, setting up for a point-by etc...
I would not place fault on the instructor. Or the student.

Yeah but he was bunched up behind two cars when it happened and had to slow down alot coming in.

Well, I ain't in the car so obviously I got no relavent insight - just pointing out (but you have to read the whole sentance I wrote
). You can ignore the second sentance - I probably was trying to be a dick but saying I wasn't trying to be a dick was a veiled attempt to throw you off my trail.

I would place it on the instructor , why teach a student a line and then teach a new one once he is more comfortable on track ?
my group one student was driving the same line I taught to my group two student.

God damn that green Mustang is still in HPDE2. When that guy is on track I feel uneasy. Not only is he slow as hell (not really a big deal), but his line and consitency are abosultely awful. ARGH!
I talked with that guy (the green Mustang guy), and while I don't remember his name, and wasn't really around him that much on track, he was nice enough. He did go on about "those damn Hondas" though...

That's why I'm in HPDE- to learn!
In my first session (which the 2nd RX-7 clip in the vid shows), I made the mistake following the RX-7's line after South Bend & not following the line I should be. You can even see/hear me talking in the vid to the instructor (when I took my hand off the wheel b/c I felt like a dumbass) & realizing my mistake of following his line.....
If you look at the earlier RX-7 footage in the clip (which is from my 3rd session on Saturday - the clips are in random order from any of 6 different sessions), you can see me go in early at South Bend & then track all the way out to the right (albeit I still even have more track to play with to the right). Thus, we have improvement from the first to third session & most importantly, I realized my mistake right away in the first session...I just have to resist the urge of "following" someone when they pass me - I have a tendency to copy them even if their line or driving is incorrect....
I made the clip as a joke just to show HP differences down the large straightaways - like coming out of Oak-Tree or down the Main Straight....but I do appreciate the comments & advice....

Don't misunderstand me, I ain't pointing fingers. As I said, I am not in the car so I have no relavent perspective (for all I know you guys are discussing that track out is where the Chevy Nova dropped oil on the last lap). I was pointing out that you do somewhat welcome a critique juxtaposing clips of laps w/ comments about HP. Over time, the HP matters less and less in an HPDE. Its about the only place where Vipers, 944s, M5s, Miatas, Corvettes, CRXs, Mustangs and Malibus can all play together

Oh yeah, having spoken with him I can vouch he's a great guy, but I just don't feel safe when I'm around him on track, too unpredicatable (at least he was at Summit).

Was that the Nov. 1,2 HPDE? If so, while I don't remember him being unpredictable, I do remember him being slow, as there was only one mustang I recall being fast, and that was the blue SVT convertible.

You're not that bad dude. We're all learning.
Thank you TONS for the video.
I'm the red EVO. Also, don't despair too much. BOTH that Z06 and RX-7 are fast as hell. I let the Z06 by (given, he was solo and I had my instructor, but heck) this session. The RX-7 made it past me in November, but never made it to me this session. (He's got more HP, I got better brakes - hee hee).
This HPDE2 group was one of the fastest I've seen. The field was a little crowded.

vir full is a roll-a-thon for slower cars/drivers. it wasnt too bad for me when i was there because it rained on sat. so v8 were my biotches. when it dried up, lt. dan rolled me in the 1st gen rx7. but all in all, if u cary lots of speed in the corners and run the right line, you shouldnt be too much of a rolling chicane.

Slightly OT, but you may want to look into another location for the camera. I found myself trying to peer around the instructor's head to see the line you were taking. Relocating the rearview mirror in the camera's viewfinder might not hurt either; if you can angle it so that we see what's actually behind the car (and not your shades!
) it wouldn't be so much of an obstacle.
Just my 2 cents,
Andrew, who might not see the track at all this season

Yep, I'm a dumbass - I had left the camera mount in the same position for a previous auto-x, so I had forgotten that a passenger would be in that seat... It wasn't until Saturday night (after 4 sessions) that I saw the video & my instructors head
I quickly moved the mount before Sunday's sessions...
