Where are Nicholson Speedway and Raceway Park? Does Beaverun have a schedule up yet? How many competitors in the series's you're going to run? I see some of that is WKA, how did you go about getting around the requirement that new people drive the 100 cc class?

Hope your off season included some sort of neck strength as well as aerobic excercise.

Good luck, and keep us informed!

Nicholson Speedway is about 5 miles north of Chestertown on the eastern shore in Maryland.

Raceway Park is the same place as Englishtown Raceway. They just call it Raceway Park.

BeaveRun does have there schedule up. It's on their website.

I have no idea how many competitors will be competing on any given race day. Locally down here, maybe 5-6 shifters. Raceway Park hosts as many as 20 shifters. They are really competitive up there. I have met three other guys with shifters that I will be traveling with this summer. It's gonna awesome.

As far as getting around the WKA requirements. When asked about previous motorsports experience on the application. I truthfully stated my autocross experience and track days and about a month later I received my WKA license with a Class 2 Enduro license and a Class 1 Sprint License. That's all you need to be able to run a shifter.

If you have anymore questions, feel free to ask.

AJ-

What is the average entry fee?

What kind of life do you expect to get out of the kart consumables (tires, brake pads, engine, etc)?

I have a million more, but we'll start with those

Carl

Average entry fees?
They range from $15 all the way to $170.
Practice days at most local sprint tracks are $15. While race days at most local sprint tracks range from $20-$40. Practice days at WKC events are $50 which are at SPR and VIR. And any given race weekend at a WKC event can range from $65 to $130 depending upon if you're running one or two classes.

Consumables:
Tires:
If you have an unlimited budget, people will go through a set a weekend. I'll go through one set every two weekends...at least.

Brake pads:
Maybe go through no more than 2-3 sets a year.

Engine:
Engine will last you a year before a bottom end rebuild is needed. Piston and ring needs to be replaced every two full weekends.

Keep the questions coming.

Later,

AJ

Do Nicholson, Sandy Hook have kart tracks? Or do you run the 1/4 mile ovals?

Does Raceway Park/Englishtown have a kart track? Is this the 'road course' that they built two years ago?

How much effort is involved in changing from a long road course setup to an oval or shorter, kart-specific track setup?

As far as enduro's go, the longest race at SPR and VIR is about 30 minutes which is more than a workout for driving one of these things. I don't know how the F1 drivers do it. Other than that, sprint races last about 15-20 laps which is more like 8-15 minutes depending on the track.

Thanks, take care,

AJ

Nicholson Speedway is a kart track only. It's not an oval either. It has about 7 turns. Sandy Hook has a road course at their facility that runs off the oval. The banked turn is nice.

Raceway park does have a kart track. It's part of the parking lot next to the grand stands at the drag strip. It's not part of the new road course that they built. You can see a track map here:

I really don't have to do much to a kart to prepare it for a road course. I need to change the exhaust pipe, gearing, and tires (to a harder compound). That's pretty much about it for now. I don't really have the experience to make chassis adjustments, alignments settings, etc. I just need seat time.

Keep 'em coming ,

AJ

HI:

I read your story about Miami. My son is Jacques Siedentopp. I am glad you enjoyed the racing in Miami and he was helpful to you. I am very proud of him. Thanks for the great pictures.
