AEM CAI junk?
I have been searching the threads on AEM CAI on ludes (I have just traded my accord for a 93 VTEC lude) and have come across a bunch of replies that say to leave it stock or go type S.
Is it true that the AEM really hurts low-end torque and that the high-end gains are not worth it?
If so, is the Type-S funnel really best (throughout powerband)?
If not, what is, and where can I get it?
By the way, I was looking on edmunds reviews the other day, and some guy posted his 93VTEC with a greddy P.E. exhaust and AEM CAI ONLY, and putting down 213 to the wheels. Did he forget to mention running low boost or is this for real (I thought that P.E. on N/A means no low end)?
Thanks.

Yes, it is true that you lose bottomend torque with the AEM. And, yes, the Type S intake box shows gains throughout the RPM band.
You have to ask yourself what you plan on using your car for and what you expect out of it.
I bought an AEM CAI for the track, and will keep the OEM box when I autoX. If I wasn't such a cheap azz...I would buy the Type S box for daily driving/autoXing and keep the AEM for the track. However, I am trying to keep the cost of modding my Prelude to a bare minimum.

I have a AEM CAI on my 95 H22a1 with a DC header and a 5 Zigen exhaust and I noticed that the throttle response is a lot better comparing to my e-bay short ram intake. But then again anything is better than an e-bay intake. If you can find a type-S intake then go for it or if you can find a AEM CAI for cheap then I would go for the AEM. just my .02

I have an AEM CAI on my 97 base h22a. Though I did notice the low end torque reduction, I quite enjoy the gains higher in the rev spectrum. Especially down in Miami, where if the temperature drops a few degrees at night, its a very noticable difference in performance
i have a aem cai on my 96 prelude S - same here, lost a little low end but gained power higher rpm - and it sounds fucin cool, real deep and it makes kinda of a whistle , u can hear it sucking in air
