Default H22 Break In Period (New block)

My friends short block was changed under warranty (99 Prelude Base MT) and honda says so that everything goes well he would have to break it in for 10,000km don't you find this a bit extreme. They said first 10,000km no redlining or vtec just crusing. I know you gotta be safe and all but isn't this just a bit over the top anyone want to comment on this? I'm thinking max 5,000km should be fine what do you guys think?

The Normal Rule is the first 1000 (miles) Whatever that converts to in Km.

100 miles change oil, just cruise around
250 miles change oil, nothing above 5500
500 miles change oil, nothing above 6500
1000 miles change oil, increase RPM's to redline, no abusing
1500-2000 miles, it's broken in.

That how I do it. But that's just me.

I think its important to make sure that the oil filter is fresh and there are no shavings or anything floating around scoring any parts

Everyones different, I changed mine at 50 miles, take it easy , change it at 500 thats when I tune it, take it to its first redline, still take it easy after that, 1000 change it, pretty much broke in by now

Exactly. You'd be VERY surprised at what is in meandering around your oil system. It takes a few oil changes to get it all filtered out.
