Default Rebuilding D16A6/Z6 mini me short block

Z6 head
A6 block

I am rebuilidng the short block, figured migh as well use bigger pistons, looking for something mild, just alittle more than stock

Any recommendations?

Also all parts I will need to do the rebuild
Bearings, rings and pistons? will I need new rods for the pistons, do not want to spend more than $1000 total. If I have someone rebuild it with stock parts it runs about $700 so I have some spending room.

Thanks

First buy a helms manual and read the rebuild section. I recommend going with dohc zc pistons. For building I would go to dh-racing.com. I have had alot of succes with there builds.

With my build I'm taking it to a machine shop and getting it done the right way. There is no way you can get the exact clearances you want by doing it in your garage - and it's difficult to keep things clean.

Bearings - OEM or ACL bearings seem to be pretty good, you choose.
Pistons - Any OEM style piston should be good, it depends on what compression ratio you'd like. (ie mid compression = A6 pistons, high compression = PM9/ZC pistons) With the piston set, it should include the rings and the wrist pins.
Rods - the stock ones should be just fine. It would be a good idea to get them stress relieved.

Putting it together: Like I said above, I personally think a machine shop is the best way to go and have them piece it all up. As far as oversizing goes, a .25mm or .5mm oversized is pretty safe/good for D-series motors. It also wouldn't hurt to have the machine shop balance the rotating assembly (flywheel, crank, pistons/rods, crank pulley).

Good luck!
