noob ques: help identifying engine parts
hi people, im very noob to cars, i was planning on giving my cars engine a good clean shine but im not sure about what i should cover. I've seen people mentioning to cover the sparkplugs, dizzy cap, fuses or whatever. But i have no clue what these things look like. Now, i took a picture of my engine, but i have no idea how to upload it onto here. I duno, if someone wants to help me out.. i can send them a picture of my engine and maybe you can just help me figure out what some of this stuff is?
hmm, yes. I did find that post before, my question was more along the lines that i dont know what those parts look like, i dont know what to cover. I know the parts names and all, just not what they look like.

Alright going from the bottom right around counter-clockwise...
Alternator right next to the thing that says HOT
Power Steering pump
At the top of the valve cover (the thing that says honduh) intake manifold
The black tube coming out of the intake manifold your intake tubing and filter
To the left of the valve cover is your distributor cap and spark plug wires
Below the valve cover is your heat shield and header.
what else do you need to know other than everything
Go and buy yourself a haynes or Chiltons it will educate yourself about every screw crack and seal in your car

Above the top-right corner (out of picture) is your brake fluid reservoir, plus clutch reservoir if you've got a manual tranny. Cover those so you don't get water into the brake fluid. There's air vents on the lids.
I've never bothered to cover the alternator or power steering pump. They've never given me trouble. I just don't spray directly into the air slots of the alternator.

i didnt cover anythig......i got kinda fuct cause my plug wires old (they still work fine) but the #2 wire wasnt sealing properly so i got water down into my sparkplug houseing......car wouldnt start and i was FREAKING OUT cause me and a buddy couldnt figure out what it was (this was back when i knew NOTHING about cars).....
eventually some electrical cleaner we sprayed in there after realzing what was wrong evaporated the water away in an instant....only problem that resulted was that my car reaked of de-greaser and wire cleaner for 4 months.....
