I recommend checking out Grassroots Motorsports Magazine, (it comes out every other month), they have an ongoing series on building fast, quick, fun cars for under $2003. You'd be surprised what a little creativity, a little money, and a little skill can get you. In an old August edition they had a large article, "11 seconds for two grand" with many different kind of cars (including hondas) built up for less than $2003 dollars, and they're put through a series of grueling tests. So maybe the cliche is not always true.
