Browsing honda.co.jp.......s500?
Just looking around on the honda of japan site, thought
some one would be interested in where the s2000 started.
I would post a link but I ran it all through a translator, so
it wouldnt work anyways.

yea i really want one of those, and yes they are very tiny. But for their age, they made 140hp back when they were released. Compare that to the mitsubishi "lancer" who makes the same hp many many years later.

Thats very close to me. Dont think they have that anymore, I have been
there some what resently.
It is just an old honda, not really worth paying a lot for, would be could
to pick one up for cheap though. So can I take it that they were released
in the states?

The S500's are rare, but the S600's are still around...saw two of them at the Barret Jackson Auction in Arizona a few weeks ago.
You can pick one up in decent condition for around 20-35k.

No way they made 140 hp. Maybe 40 hp? Just like the s2000, the s500 gets its name from the engine displacement- half a liter!
Oh, just found a cool link:
http://www.hondasportsregistry...0.php
It's in the small print on some of those images- 44 ps.
But what's really cool is that the redline on those cars is very similar to the s2000, about 9k. Peak power is at 8k according to the brochures linked above.

my dad actually had a s800 back in the late 60s or early 70's. He said it was chain driven, and would rev to 10000 RPMS+. Crazy little car. The way he got it registered was his girl freind at the time worked at the DMV over in Indana (he lived in Iowa) Had it for a a few months and sold it later. I catch him every once in a while searching ebay or sites like that for them. Dont really know how he came across his orginal one, but he said something about the past owner was from canada.
I belive the s500 (500cc) was the prototype, and never actually came in production even in japan. They came out with the s600 (600 CC) and it sold great. Later, honda came out with the faster s800 (800cc). Both were slow but very fun cars. That is why honda kinda screwed up the tradition with the 04 2.2L S2k's. It should be s2200, but whatever.
