LS/Vtec - Vtec control issues
I have a 91 teg that I am doing a lsvtec swap into. I have my block and a prepped head I am just wondering what will control my VTEC? Will a stand alone vtec controller do this or will I need a aftermarket ECU? I purchased a ecu that the seller said was perfect for LS/Vtec swap but it looks the same as my stock one it has just been "chipped", if this will work where will the vtec wires run too? If anybody knows of a website or a how to that describes this in detail please let me know... Thanks
a vtec controller is nice, if u know how to set it up right, or go have it tuned, but a vtec ecu will work too, a p28...im not sure of how to wire the vtec controller but u can search on here...good luck! make sure u break in the car before u drive hard,
Well, you can just run any year VTEC ecu that will plug into your harness... The ecu will control your VTEC, but you will have to add wires for VTEC solenoid, VTEC pressure switch, and I think there is one more... I'm not positive on the pin locations though...
heres a good article on Ls/Vtec pics included. http://hondaswap.com/forums/in...33559
a feels program is ussually the best choice on a p28 for
a ls/vtec set up
but you could also back it with the apexi vafc in wich has more
tunning capability as well as functions.
just to mention one thats good
lets say vtec opens @ 52k
between shifts the rpms drop below 45k
then the vtec deactivates and you have to kick it up again
to 52k to open vtec again
apaxi controls this and lets you change the vtec deactivation
point to your taste..
then lets not talk about your fuel, air and timming control features.

You're car is a 91 so it's obd-0. The correct ecu for your integra is either a pr3 or a pw0. The pr3 ecu is slightly better than the pw0 because it has beter fuel and ignition maps. Either will work though. If your car is a 5-speed, make sure you get a manual ecu. You can also use a v-afc to control your vtec activation if you want, but the ecu would be the better choice to use. Good luck.
