JDM front end conversion, full or half cut JDM support?
Yes, i SEARCHED
I noticed that all the how to's listed that they only did the halfcut jdm rad support. I received my jdm front and i am just getting started on it, and it would be a shame to cut the whole oem JDM rad support and weld it.
Why isnt the whole rad support welded on and only half instead? Is it harder to line up the oem JDM rad support to the frame rails? It doesnt even look like there is many more sport welds that have to be drilled out to do the whole thing, so why not?
One more thing, should the rad support be painted before or after its welded on?
Let me know on your input, it would be greatly appreciated

well like you said its easier to line everything back up square if you only do half of the support... if you have a very competent welder/body man do it, he should be able to do that with little to no problem..
and you'd want to paint after, because your painting it so your welds dont rust after all

Mine was cut when it was put on. The car was painted w/o the front bumper, fenders, & hood on the car. For those that have seen my install it was done very well in my opinion. A body shop did my install so I can not give you any more details than that. Brad

Heh, i am my own body man.
Anyways, if it was overlapped, how far would everything be out of alignment?
For the DIY person, would it be more logical if i just did the half cut.. I am doing this entirely in my garage with the how to's off H-T, so no body pros here.

I am also my own body man and I would do the whole radiator support. It will line up. Because of the top, use alot of vice grips to get it where you want it and tack weld it in some spots to hold and do some test fitting if you are unsure of your placement. If you need anymore help just pm me and I will kind of give you a how to
I had the conversion on my first R and the only sections you need are the upper half and the center beam. You will also need to weld on the u shaped brackets that the side of the headlights screw into.
Hmm...
Im going to cut my oem support, so how good my cuts are first. If they are good im just going to do the half cut...
Oh yea look forwrad for an extensive DIY, i have pictures of everything

I actually just did my JDM front the way MASE did on his old Integra. I am not sure if he cut the center piece which goes down to the bottom of the radiator support but that is what (my friend actually) did. I found out it to save alot of time and headache trying to line up the fender/hood/headlight lines.
This is where I cut:

Im actually suppose to weld the complete rad support on today but yesterday I was having problems linning it up, I dont really know how far back to puck the top rad support.. Im i suppose to align it with the old spot welds??
Trial and error is the way to go!
