Default Rollcage

So, I just bought a 90 CRX Si. My mother was a little upset that it doen't have an airbag. I personally don't care, but she does. So, I pitched her the idea of a rollcage for safety, and asked her if she would split the price. She said maybe depending on the price and what not. Now, if I put a rollcage in, I know I wil need seats with haresses, which I plan on doing. But I was wondering what type of rollcage would be best for driving it daily since the rollcage is mainly in there as an alternative to an airbag for a little more safety, and what typsof cages you guys have and prices. Any info would be nice. Thanks.

rick your dumbass does not need a roll cage. if you wreck the car with a roll cage you are going to end up dead by hitting your head on a metal pipe. To use a roll cage you need a helmet for safty.

actually you dont need a helmet. as long as your head cant come in contact with the tubes via harness or tube padding, your ok. im planning on putting a chromoly 6pt rollcage into my crx in a couple months, and if i wasnt doing it myself, it would usually cost around 1000 for a chromoly 6pt or 600 for mild steel. those are the kind of prices we throw around at full-race for crxs. although, those are professionally built and tig welded. i would never put a bolt in cage in my car. those bolts are weak and the metal they are bolted to is weak. you need a whole 6'' plate welded to the floor to have security on the sheet metal floor. i wouldnt go with anything less, even in a daily driver.

So if you're 4'9" tall or less, you're good to go

i second the idea of ( Kid-honda) how does a rollcage sub an airbag. One helps head on collisions and one helps more or less roll overs.

I was thinking the same thing... airbags and rollcages are not in any way related...

I wasn't suggesting that a rollcage would replace an airbag, but it would increase safety....somewhat.

To me, an roll cage won't do any help unless you are planning to race all out.

If safety is honestly the only reason you're doing this (and not because it would be cool to have a cage in your car), don't install a cage in your street car. If you must, a roll bar mounted behind the seats would be better, as this would not require the use of a helmet.

I have the autopower rear-section 4pt and like it quite a bit, it was around $450 total cost from dgtrials.com. (ioportracing.com sells em too) Very nice for street and if mom is buying half, go for it.

im also getting a 4.pt either autopower or kirk for my daily driven crx.

im also getting a harness bar for harnesses and racing seats.....

if i wanted a cage i'd strip the interior. but i was looking for a little added safety for roll over, and i wnated some harnesses, and the correct way in a crx is with the harness bar.

That would be ideal.

personally with soccer moms driving giant suv's with screaming kids in the back, I would like to have a cage so I doesnt get squished as bad in the little crx.

fyi- you can place the cage so there is no way your head can come in contact with it.

main hoop behind the seat, window to a pillar bar tight to the frame. as long as you have a 4pt harness it will work. if your too tall and your head might come in contact with the a pillar bar, then dont have one, or put alot of padding on it. for the shoulder bar, obviously have padding. it all depends on where the cage is compared to the seat.

all harnesses are designed to stretch to a degree to absorb shock, too risky imo
