00-01 S2000 Transmission problems
I heard there were some tranny problems with the 00-01 S2000, What were they.. What ended up happening.. And was it fixed for the 02+ S2000's .. ??
I am planning to buy a used S2000.. but I need more infomation coz I don't wanna spend the money on a 2002+ but not able to afford the 04's so if anything I want 00-01.. but a friend told me to get at least 02+ to avoid the transmission problem.. Can I get some help..
And I did a search and nothing.. thanks

Did they cause the grinding I hear from a lot of owners.. and if I get it changed to an aftermarket clutch and flywheel for example Spoon or Toda.. will that take away the problem.. ??

grinding arouses from a few poor shifts that damage the synchros then it'll grind and be notchy permanently. I'm sure the car didn't grind when it rolled off the dealership lot. The spring hub of the friction disk had faulty springs and those springs would rattle on deceleration.

I have an 00, and I can attest to the fact, that SOMETIMES, when I take it to 9k in first, and shift to second in a swift motion, the gears do grind....
I don't do that very often, I like second gear VTEC anyways, and that is where I stay when I autox anyways.....
So the minor grinding issue isn't much of an issue to me.

I think that there are at least three TSB's out there for the clutch and transmission.
Don't worry though, I've got a spare transmission sitting up at King Motorsports that I'll sell to you if you trash the one that you buy.

the 00-01's not only had the buzzing deacceleration problem(faulty clutch disk) BUT it also had a problem with the 2nd gear grinds. i have a MY03 and my gear never grinded, actually it grinded once when i first got the car but that was my fault. i was wearing sandals and didnt push down the clutch all the way. again it was 100% my fault that time.

I've got an '01, no 2nd gear grinding. Others have said my shifter is uber smooth.

As vapor stated in another thread, alot of it is driver error. The few times I have ground my 02's tranny is because of me speedshifting and not having the clutch fully engaged.
