Default do I really have a ZC?

I just bought this car 3 days ago and ZC is written on the valve cover. I's also printed on the block. On the block it looks like this:

ZC
5738619

on the valve cover (where i's written) it has the 3 mixed-up with another 8? Anywho it's still DPFI and from my understanding don't you have to switch over to MPFI? It's also a automatic DX if that helps. Any help on how to determine what I have is apprecaited, the previous owner didn't seem to have any knowledge on honda's all he knew was that it had a intake on it. I haven't driven any other crx so can't use the good-ole SOTP pants guess .

ok so where the engine code is, it say ZC?.. then its a ZC, proably the SOHC one, and its still runing DPFI?.. man ur the 2nd guy on here who bought one like that.. that sucks that a shop would do all the work to put in a ZC, then not even switch it over to MPFI

yep! well it's a 16 valve so yeah i'm pretty sure it's a sohc. where does the ZC engine come from anyway? Is it non-vtec? I guess i'll take the time out to read up and switch over to MPFI. How much of a difference would you expect? Atleast this gives me something to do with the car, not to bad when you only spent 820 for it .

EDIT: how much power does sohc ZC's put out anyway? Damn i wish it wasn't automatic

You paid 820 ******* dollars for a sohc zc??? Man go take it back right ******* now. You can get the dohc for 550 no problem anyday.

Honestly man go take it back and I will personally track you down a local dohc zc, you got ripped big time. I paid 650 CANADIAN for my sohc zc with 150amp alt.

WOW, 800 dollars

I knew i was going to be misunderstood. I payed 820 INCLUDING THE CAR. I was buying this CRX thinking it was a DX (for $820 US) and just found out that it had a sohc ZC. Now are these motors non-vtec or what? Check my previous post https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=781478

There are both non vtec and vtec sohc zc's. Sounds like you defientely have a non vtec. Dont worry about adding it, not really worth it.

why does it seem so 'out of this world' to you guys??? people need replacement engines and guess what? some people call the engine importers and some of them have sohc zc's in stock.

and what do you mean by all that work to put in a zc??? it's a straight drop in. lol. all the person did is swap the intake manifold off the old engine onto the new. lol

If switching to MPFI will give my car my that extra umpph (quite noticeable) plus i/h/e then that will be cool. I don't wanna get my pockets to much into this car because i soon as the summer comes i'm going to get a M6 LT-1

You might as well just keep it the way it is since your getting a new car.

Well I threw 400 bucks at my sohc zc and I know I can smoke b16 ef's with bolt ons. Ive just got a sohc zc with i/e, gutted cat and a 75 shot on a pg7 ecu. Cost less than 800 performance wise ans Im over 200hp but still have the reliability of my little sohc zc lol

Oh well, bseries are stolen to much so I decided on the more stealthy swap and dont tell anyone Im on the bottle unless they see me purge which I try to hide

you may be able to beat b16 ef's, but you don't have over 200 hp. at least not to the wheels.

Well unless your racing for more then like a mile then yeah hes toast, but since most races last a 1/4 mile maybe more then I think I back that guy, he did the right thing, although Id like to go to a c1 somday theres nothing wrong with spraying a sohc for some added boost.

Lets face it since the gearing is very similiar from a si tranny to like a s1-j1 1st and even into 2nd gear is pretty close compared to a si with bolt-ons and b16 ef, its 3rd and 4th that will kick the si out of the running, and with some added boost in those gears(safely at wot by that time) you can smoke any small b-series, especially since from what ive seen in Iowa and chicago(where I lived for 2 years) most guys have no clue what there b16a is capable of and simply slapped it in with no rebuild or anything so in reality the sohc is prob. running extremely better.
