Hey guys, some people might know me here already as I have been asking [annoying] some of the Road Race/AX people on track days and what not..
I was wondering how do you guys go about saving up for track weekends, most of the people on here I know just dont drive stock cars on the track... For example I finally got some kinks worked out in my car, but there is stuff I would still want to get before I hit the track..
Do you start a totally seperate fund for driving weekends and car modifications, or are most people paying weekends off with a credit card..
Being at a young age I dont want to start to get into credit debt, so most likely I'll be paying by cash..... Any other reccomendations, I think I remember talking to Mike [Madison motorsports] about being a cornerworker and getting credits for track days..
Any info is appreciated for this broke college kid

Just put small amounts of money off to the side. Or do like I did, ask for it as a "birthday" present from your parents or grandparents. My friend payed for one of my track days as a b-day present. Explain to them it is something you really enjoy doing etc etc.
You should drop out of school. Put the money you'd have spent for the terms tuition into going to one of the bigtime racing schools. Then perform so stunningly that they offer you a scholarship, and you'll be on your way to fame and fortune.
If you have to, borrow money from friends and relatives and don't give up. Above all you have to believe in yourself.
Scott, who says "It worked for Niki Lauda"....otherwise, if you're that broke, keep your mind on your studies and avoid expensive distractions for now. Sure, go to the races, flag, crew, etc...but don't start smoking the pipe just yet.

Both NASA and Car Guys have incredible worker deals.
Work 2 weekends, drive one weekend free. You usually get hotel and lunch both days as well.... thats how i started. Now they give me a red hat and I get in the passenger seat

Navin working for Either NASA or Carguys is a great way to get on track since Yack has alred posted the car guys links here is the NASA Link http://www.nasaracing.net , or just e-mail Laura @ registar@nasaracing.net

Hopefully I'll get my 4 weeks of vacation this year. I need to start working events to make this stupid hobby "cheaper".
I don't know if I'm crazy enough to instruct. Nevermind the fact that I need 20+ more days per NASA VA to even attempt to go to the Instructor Clinic.

i did Solo 1 type stuff and HPDE's for 3 years during college. basically, you have to work your friggin tail off when you're not in school to make enough money to feed yourself, and race.
1) drink High Life Lite - $12 a 30 pack - 2-3 nights drinking
2) whiskey is cheap - $8 for a full liter of Northern Light - 2 nights drinking
3) bring a flask to the bar; 7up is free and goes well with whiskey
4) spaghetti is dirt cheap, there are plenty of meals you can make for about $1
5) don't eat out
6) don't have a girlfriend/wife/kids
7) keg parties - $3-$5 for all you can drink
8) live close to campus - walk instead of drive, no $ spent on gas
9) buzz your hair, now you can cut it for free, saves $10/month
it all depends on how bad you want it, you can take these things to extremes if you want in order to save more. other than rent/utilities, you can live off of $100/month. at least i managed to during college.

Like they said, working for seat time is a good way if you can afford the weekends away.
Other than that, it's just a matter of good budgeting. Save a few dollars from every pay check.
And, like Humungous said, don't get into debt over it and forget about racing until you're out of college and have a decent salary.

Seems like the way to go is working weekends - I have no experience working DE events, and wouldnt want to **** up anything...
Is there training on sight, cuz I am considering the Car Guys event since I'll be on spring break then..
And also expense wise - I already drink Natty Ice and Hurrican 40oz's

What better place to watch the action then from on track
And start tallying up for a free event.

This isn't the case for me. My wife supports my racing hobbie. In fact she's the one who suggested that I go for my competition racing license.
Also if I weren't married there'd be no garage, or for that matter there'd be no house... I'd be "living in a van down by the river".

Step one: Impress the hell out of somebody who runs a school, prompting him to ask you to instruct at his schools with track time as payment
Step two: ...
Step three: Profit

I put all my money into getting myself and nearby females drunk, plus a few books and art supplies in college. Now that I have a job, I just whip out a few c-notes whenever I need em for my car habit... makes working for the man worthwhile.
My point is, dont lose touch with your priorities. You can have parties, learn ****, play GT-3, get laid, autocross, do odd jobs, do the work-for-race thing (mentioned above) while you're in college, but dont put yourself in PRE-debt...it sucks to dig out of that hole (dont ask how I know)
Oh, yeah, dont have any kids.

Sacrifice is key....however, a good career making enough money to live and race should be an important goal as well....

Amen, this was my key. Study hard = good paying job = racing $. I couldn't afford to do ANY kind of racing when I was in college.
